How does location influence the communication time?

In the EdgeCloudSim, we can set the location of the users and data centers/hosts to simulate mobility. But how does the communication time be affected by the location? and what is the formula to calculate the communication time by the file size, bandwidth, network type(WLAN or WAN) and location distance?

Hi there,

In EdgeCloudSim we mostly use simple networks model like M/M/1, MMPP/M/1. These are a fairly straightforward and frequently used network delay models. You can easily find their formulation on the Internet.

These network models only check if the user is in range (coverage area) and do not consider the user's precise location. However more sophisticated network models can be implemented. For example you can add a packet error-rate to your network delay formulation based on the user's distance from the access point.

If the distance is an important parameter for your scenario, I suggest investigating other network delay formulations that also take distance into account.
