Hi,

As part of USCDI V3, we are working on supporting the basic occupation/industry(2.16.840.1.113883.10.20.22.4.503/2.16.840.1.113883.10.20.22.4.504) in CCDAR21. There are two ODH value set versions,  V1 & V2(released on 3/3/25) available for occupation/industry. So, the concern is which version we need to support for USCDI V3 compliance ? because we see significant difference between V1 & V2 value set codes. Any help is on this is greatly appreciated .

Note -: V1 value set had the mapping between CDC code (required for Cancer registry & Electronic case reporting ) & ODH provided under Hot Topics section on the PHIN VADS home page, but mapping is missing for V2.

Industry- https://phinvads.cdc.gov/vads/ViewValueSet.action?oid=2.16.840.1.114222.4.11.7900

Either V1 or V2 is in compliance. ONC addressed this in their regulation in § 170.555(b)(2) around minimum standard code versions. Basically, ONC will establish the "floor" or minimum version of a vocabulary code standard and developers can implement newer versions/standards and be in compliance with multiple versions unless the National Coordinator explicitly states that a version is excluded from the program. In the Cures Rule, ONC extended that same approach to versions listed in USCDI (see below). So developers can choose to use either V1 or V2 of the Occupation/Industry value sets.

We also noted, for purposes of clarity, that consistent with § 170.555, unless the Secretary prohibits the use of a newer version of an identified minimum standard code set for certification, health IT could continue to be certified or upgraded by developers to a newer version of an identified minimum standard code set than that included in USCDI v1 or the most recent USCDI version that the National Coordinator has approved for use in the Program using the SVAP flexibility.

Hello,

Kyle's response is correct. Developers may support either value set version and be in compliance.

Thank you,
Kim
