Hello,

For Clinical Notes Section, we would like to preserve the formatting and wanting to use the <pre> tag in the textual section. However, NIST gives below error

cvc-complex-type.2.4.a: Invalid content was found starting with element 'pre'. One of '{"urn:hl7-org:v3":content, "urn:hl7-org:v3":linkHtml, "urn:hl7-org:v3":sub, "urn:hl7-org:v3":sup, "urn:hl7-org:v3":br, "urn:hl7-org:v3":footnote, "urn:hl7-org:v3":footnoteRef, "urn:hl7-org:v3":renderMultiMedia, "urn:hl7-org:v3":paragraph, "urn:hl7-org:v3":list}' is expected.

Question:
Is there any workaround to use the <pre> tag or any other way to include/display the preformatted data.

My sample HTML is as follows:

<text>
<table border="1" width="100%">
<tbody>
<tr>
<td>Note Title</td><td>My Testing Note</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td colspan = "2" ID="AdmNote2">
<pre>Some Notes Text here</pre>
</td>
</tr>
</tbody>
</table>
        </text>

Thanks & Regards
Surbhit Jain

This is not compliant with the HL7 schema, please use any tags that are allowed per the HL7 schema

Thanks. I understand <PRE> is not valid. However, can you please help with any alternatives for showing preformatted data
What are the options with me ?

Hello,

Do you have an example note to share?

The HTML tags allowed in CDA are fairly limited – but have met the primary purpose of CDA, make the content human readable.

See “4.3.5 Section Narrative Block” in the CDA R2.0 spec for the available options. Downloadable from HL7: http://www.hl7.org/implement/standards/product_brief.cfm?product_id=496

Hello Brett,

Attached is the complete Sample XML. See the 'History and Physical' Section in the attached XML.. It has the <PRE> tag currently.. Line Number 529
Also for quick reference, attached is the formatted snapshot of the data if I include the <PRE> Tag, and non-formatted snapshot, if I don't include the <PRE> Tag.

Really appreciate it if you can help and give guidance on how to support the formatting needs without <PRE> Tag.

Regards
Surbhit Jain

Thanks.

There isn’t a great way with the base CDA 2.0 to drive formatting. IHE did some great work on a Multiple Content Views profile but it requires the receiver to interpret/apply (search IHE MCV to find).

Ohhh..Since we share CCD with several recipients, having a common CSS/stylesheet/educating recipients may be problematic.
Do you know of any way to apply inline stylesheets embedded within CCD itself ?
Thanks for your analysis.
