Direct Messaging Timeout Issue in ETT Testing

Hi Team,

I am currently performing Direct Messaging testing as part of the (h)(1) workflow in the ONC Edge Testing Tool (ETT), and I am encountering repeated TIMEOUT errors during message transmission.

Issue Summary:

  • Messages are not being delivered and consistently show a TIMEOUT status.
  • The “From” address in the logs appears as:
    processed.dispatched=...@localhost
  • This indicates that the system is using an internal routing address instead of the configured Direct address.


  • Observed Behavior:
  • Messages are not reaching the recipient endpoint.
  • No acknowledgment is received from the receiving HISP.
  • System retries result in repeated TIMEOUT entries.

Likely Cause:

  • Misconfiguration of the Direct “From” address in the HISP or application.
  • The system is defaulting to an internal processed.dispatched address instead of the registered Direct address.

Requested Assistance:

  • Verify that the correct Direct address is configured as the sender identity.
  • Ensure certificates are properly bound to the Direct address.
  • Confirm HISP configuration and outbound routing settings.
  • Validate that the system is not overriding the sender address during message processing.
