Subject: Requesting Alumni Interaction Initiatives for the Academic session 2017-18
To: geek...@gmail.com <geek...@gmail.com>

Dear Geek Alums,
With immense greetings from Team Geekonix, we would like to request apology from our Alumni Association for the delay on the part of the team in reaching out to you. Late commencement of campus placements this year led to the delay.
After the success of Alumni interaction Initiatives like GeekXTalks in the previous academic session, we would like to request the Alumni Body to conduct more such sessions and initiatives, which would help in bridging the gap between the students of Techno India as well as the present working team of Geekonix and the Geekonix Alumni Body. We hope such interactions would also help the students get an idea of the challenges and opportunities lying in the corporate world like it did in its previous sessions.
Hence We would request you to take necessary steps in the said direction and guide us through the process.

Regards,
Team GEEKONIX.

Hi,

No worries. Do you guys have any specific topic in mind? or any general area that you want to hear about? We already did the IT/automation and job prospects in 1st episode and we can circle back again later.

In terms of arrangements, we'd need to see who are in Kolkata around a time we plan to set this talk. If not, is it feasible for you to enable a skype/google hangout chat? The later could be much easier though and multiple speakers can join.

Also send us which months (specific calendar days) should be avoided.

If your email bounced back from the google group, dont worry about it. The wider audience will still read your email.

Thankyou for the feedback. Let us plan around your request and we'll get back to you shortly.

Dear Alums,
Based on the discussion that we had among the members, we have come up with few topics of which one can be taken up for the session.
The following are listed below:
  • Big Data/ Data Analytics
  • Machine Learning
  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Digitization
  • Entrepreneurial Prospects and Possibilities
Google Hangouts can be an appropriate medium in case any of the Alumni not being present in Kolkata.
Post November 15th the practicals for semester exams would begin. Apart from that, 27th and 30th of October to 3rd of November as well as 11th and 12th of November have been scheduled for workshops and seminars. We can have the sessions on any other day this semester.
We can have more episodes in the coming semester as well.

Regards,
Team Geekonix

Here's my suggestion for this event:

Send a set of basic maths/geometry questions (that eventually builds up to different models of pattern recognition) to the students. As a supplement, we can send them Google Developer youtube ML Videos: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cKxRvEZd3Mw&list=PLT6elRN3Aer7ncFlaCz8Zz-4B5cnsrOMt

There are about 9 videos in this series each spanning to at most 7mins. They are short, easy to understand and needs no pre-requisite knowledge other than basic Geometry. They also post sample questions, which we can present to students with different data set and have them solve it.

I think this exercise will:
1. Assess the interest of the group towards ML.
2. Help speakers to calibrate the level of the talk.
3. Good learning exercise for everyone -- Even the Alumni.

Please feel free to comment.

And just to clarify. We will need actionable inputs from them.
Just "that was an interesting video but we didn't have time to go through the questions" will not cut it.

Hope some of them will understand that it is for their own benefit.

Hi Team,

We need some more information to help us design our next episode.
Here's the plan:
1. Focusing on Machine Learning which probably will encapsulate AI involved implementation on later stages.
2. Alums will be on campus in addition to few joining over web to host the session, introduce the topic, present problem statements and help with solution finding techniques.

Since this is a pretty deep topic, could you explain what is the real interest/motivation/expectation here?

-- If we are aiming for high level (overview) talk--
Pros:
1. Touch the basics and spark interest in shortest possible time about this subject.
2. They'll get to know some of the application areas without running specific case studies.

Cons:
1. Only the very basics can be covered, that too to some extent.
2. Even for getting up to having a working knowledge, students will need followup sessions.

-- If we aim for deep dive --
Pros:
1. Opportunity to look at real math problems and tackling methods in addition to quick overview.
2. Jump start to working projects with alums.

Cons:
1. Need to cover some basic tutorial videos from web(we can provide links) that covers basic algebra and geometry that is needed in any aspect of ML. These are quick and easy tutorial videos on youtube.
2. Bit of background will help greatly. Although this isn't a definite requirement as long as they cover the above point in time.

Dear Alums,
Sorry for the late response, the mail somehow found its way into the spam box.
We had a discussion within the team and we have come up with the conclusion that we can have an overview session in which the growth aspects, future scope  and the requisites of working over Machine Learning can be discussed. This will help create awareness among  the students so that the interested ones can start preparing for working in the region. Further depending on the interest generated, we can have Dive In sessions with the interested and by then, the already involved students in the domain.
If the alumni permits we can start on the promotions of the event as soon as possible.

Dear Alums,
We would like to inform you that college for even semester reopens on the 17th of January, 2018.
As discussed earlier, we can conduct our interaction session as the college reopens on any suitable day.
Since we have plans of multiple interactions offering over-view and dive in sessions on machine learning, we would be needing to conduct the over view session early in the semester.

Regards,
Team Geekonix
