Greetings,

Last Wednesday we hosted our first EDF Innovation Exchange call (we'll abbreviate it EDFix). Our topic was the many forms of Commons that we inhabit, from physical commons of water, air, land and resources to the more abstract commons of ideas, culture and innovation. Our guests were Peter and Trudy Johnson-Lenz, David Pollard and David Hodgson.

That call, the first step of an exploration of the "Sustainability Commons," covered a lot of ground, including critiques of words we sometimes take for granted, such as "sustainability," "commons," "environment" and "resources." It was a great conversation. We'll post the podcast shortly and return to this topic for call #3 on December 14th (the calls will be on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of each month at noon Eastern).

This Monday we'll host the second call. Our guest will be Andrew Winston, the author of Green Recovery: Get Lean, Get Smart and Emerge from the Downturn on Top. Together, we'll discuss:

  • Does the financial crisis mean companies should be less concerned with greening?
  • What does the recession mean for the greening movement as a whole?
  • What's the best way for companies to "get lean" today? What should they lean-up on?

You can follow Andrew on Twitter here. We look forward to hearing you on the call, and as usual, please feel free to forward this invitation to anyone who might be interested.

When: Monday, November 23, 2009 at 9am Pacific

Where: 1-270-400-1500, passcode 778778

This page lives on EDF's blog, here.

Cheers,

Jerry and Dave (Witzel)
