Having successfully installed Zorin, I find that if my computer 'blacks out' while I leave it unattended for a few moments, when I try to unlock it, it wants a password other than my sign in password. Furthermore, when I try to download software (to install skype) it tells me I do not have privileges and demands a password that I have certainly never given it.
If you are referring to the dialogue asking for root or admin password, you did supply it. When you create your account, your account is added to the sudo (super user do) file and group. When it asks for a root password or administrator password, your account password will be what you use.
In Windows, if there is only one account on a machine, it defaults to the admin group. The same applies in linux. Linux prompts requiring privilege escalation are not as "user" friendly, but are accurate in their request. It is asking for your account password every time those requests appear.
Reading into the way to make the change I navigated to the Boot/Advanced Options/Recovery Mode/Drop to Shell/passwd command process but at the end there was a requirement to input a new UNIX password.
1- Multi-device and Cross platform (Linux, Windows and Android). 2- Capture new credentials and prompt to save them automatically. None worked as expected on Zorin although their windows version works fine. 3- Auto fill passwords if there is a single credential saved for that site. If there are more, show an icon in the username field clicking on which lets you choose which username I'd like to use. 4- Offer to auto generate safe passwords in sign up pages and saves them once the form is filled and submitted.
When you installed Ubuntu you were asked to create a user with a password. If you gave this user a password as requested then this is the password you need. If not, or you have forgotten it, then you need to set a password.
How can I set up the super user password for the first time in Zorin OS, since the installer didn't ask me to provide one. I have experience with Fedora and openSUSE, but they asked me for the superuser's password during the installation process.
At first glance, this looks like a Linux distribution. Presuming that your non-root user has sudo privileges, if you want to set the root password, you can do so with sudo passwd root or sudo -s followed by passwd.
When I put my Vaio E Series laptop into sleep mode and wake it up, I can move my mouse and click things, but can't type my password with my keyboard at the login screen. I can click the submit password button and it will say it is incorrect and click the type bar the little bar that says I can type will flash, but I am unable to do so. This happened on another distro (Zorin OS), both of which are Ubuntu LTS based, so this leads me to believe this is an Ubuntu problem.
Use one mouse and keyboard to control all of your computers with the Barrier app. Simply move the cursor to the edge of the screen to switch between devices seamlessly. It even shares the clipboard, so you can copy text from one computer to paste into a document on another computer. All communication happens over an encrypted connection on your local network, so you can stay safe while typing passwords and working with sensitive data across computers.
Description of the issue:
When logging to bestbuy.com with the correct credentials, I get a "login credentials does not match our records " error. If I tried to login using Firefox or Chrome it forces me to renew by password. After renewing my password using Firefox or Chrome, I can then login using Firefox or Chrome successfully. Then I try logging in with Brave and the same error happens. This is true whether I have Shields On or Off. There seems to be no pattern.
I have created new account , but when i tried to login it I get that pop up message
Unable to load a failsafe session (xfce zorin lite), the main account and the root account work good without that error
Unable to determine failsafe session name. Possible causes xconfd isn't running (D-Bus setup problem);
environment variable $XDG_CONFIG_DIRS is set incorrectly (must include "/etc") or xfce4-session is installed incorrectly.

These commands will install and start MySQL, but will not prompt you to set a password or make any other configuration changes. Because this leaves your installation of MySQL insecure, we will address this next.
Prior to July 2022, this script would silently fail after attempting to set the root account password and continue on with the rest of the prompts. However, as of this writing the script will return the following error after you enter and confirm a password:
Regardless of whether you choose to set up the Validate Password Plugin, the next prompt will be to set a password for the MySQL root user. Enter and then confirm a secure password of your choice:
In Ubuntu systems running MySQL 5.7 (and later versions), the root MySQL user is set to authenticate using the auth_socket plugin by default rather than with a password. This plugin requires that the name of the operating system user that invokes the MySQL client matches the name of the MySQL user specified in the command, so you must invoke mysql with sudo privileges to gain access to the root MySQL user:
Note: If you installed MySQL with another tutorial and enabled password authentication for root, you will need to use a different command to access the MySQL shell. The following will run your MySQL client with regular user privileges, and you will only gain administrator privileges within the database by authenticating:
After its installed, you can run Passwords and Keys (or seahorse from Tilix). On the left hand side, under Passwords, right click on Login, and select Change Password from the menu. Enter your current password, and then when asked for a new password, leave it blank. You will get a warning that passwords will be stored unencrypted, but Screen Sharing will now remember the password without you having to unlock gnome-keyring every login.
The downside obviously, of course, is that password security is greatly reduced. If you have any sensitive passwords stored, or the device is shared by multiple users, its a convenience vs. security tradeoff.
The following screen requires you to create a user on your system and provide a name (hostname) to identify your computer on your network. You will be asked to provide a user name and password. It is advisable to Select the option "require my password to login" as extra security (this is the default option). Once you have made your choices, click on "Continue".
Once your system has started, you should see a login screen similar to the one shown below. At this screen you must click on the user you created and enter the password you created in the previous steps.
And you have to log in with a password and enter it every time you do something on your computer.Which is one big pain in the neck. And there is no way to remove the password to disable this annoying feature.
But on windows you do not have to have a password if you do not want one. Windows is not free but it is so user friendly, even a child can use it. But Linux is hard to use and slow and crashes all the time. And if you get a problem on Linux you are stuck.
The Pro edition is available for download with a purchase through the project's website. It offers additional layout themes for different operating systems, including both Windows 11 and "Windows Classic" (Windows 7) themes, a collection of wallpapers to choose from, and comes preinstalled with popular FOSS programs such as Blender, in-house software for managing passwords, and software for casting content to Miracast-compatible screens. The Pro edition provides installation technical support as well.
You can decide if the user is allowed to choose a personal password at the next login or if you want to set the password now. In case you set the password now, you can determine the password yourself, or you can generate a password by clicking on the small gear icon in the right hand corner of the password area.
In this section, we will see how to create a private Samba share that requires the client to enter username and password in order to gain access. The main Samba configuration file is located at: /etc/samba/smb.conf. You can edit it in terminal with a command line text editor like nano.
Want to run Samba over the Internet? You need to set up WireGuard VPN to encrypt the SMB/CIFS protocol. Since WireGuard uses peer-to-peer public-key authentication, it also allows you to remove password authentication in Samba, provided that you configure the firewall to allow Samba for VPN clients only and forbid all other IP addresses.
In the talk, I will present the first WiFi receiver that decodes colliding packets, rendering WiFi interference harmless. I will also show how to inject useful interference that increases network throughput using a system called analog network coding. Then, I will talk about the role of interference in improving security. I will use interference to secure insecure medical implants, and establish secure wireless connections without having users enter passwords or use pre-shared secret keys.
