If you receive an email with a subject line:
SAVE THE DATE! YOU ARE SPECIALLY INVITED
Mark it as spam and DELETE.

Note that it was not addressed as "TO:your email address"
It was addressed as "BCC:  ed...@googlegroups.com" ,
or BCC: your email address.

Also, the Invitation does not identify the event or date...
You have to click on a link, and that starts the phishing expedition.

Apparently if you follow the links, you will install  a remote access program that will give bad actors a connection to your computer. Once connected they are able to roam and attempt to extract information in a background setting where you can't see what they are exploring.

If you suspect that they might have infected your PC, disconnect from the Internet ASAP
Reboot the computer if necessary, but stay off the Internet.

I would run either the free or premium version of Malwarebytes.
If you have Revo Uninstaller, look for and uninstall  ScreenConnect, also known as ConnectWise Control.

Probably the most effective solution to clean up an infection is to use a System Restore point to roll your PC back to a restore point just prior to the time of the infection.
Using a restore point won't delete any data. It will remove/uninstall any and all executables that were installed after the chosen restore point.

If you need help, let me know.

Cheers,

Dave
