Hello All,

Happy February to everyone!

It's been awhile...How are all of you? Good, I hope.

In 2016, none of the team was able to join me and Toutoule as we held EdcampLA in October 2016 at USC. It was exhausting but we did our best to enjoy ourselves. Toutoule was super about getting us the SC venue. Our turn out was poor even though we worked hard and had over 80 responses. So it's time to regroup.

A few weeks ago David (a new, energized organizer who we met at USC) and I attended the EdCamp Leadership Summit in San Diego. It was a blast! So many great sessions and conversations. We connected with tons of edcampers from So Cal. We also met two energetic LA area educators who decided to join our team!

Please welcome Stacie and Caryn both teachers in the South Bay who are looking forward to supporting as we prepare to host our 2017 EdcampLA!

Since other team members have not been able to participate in 2016, as the four of us met at the Summit, we decided to forge ahead and select a date for EdcampLA 2017. We choose the second half of April as it seems to be a time where there will not be conference conflicts. (No time is perfect as you all know.) I’m excited to share with you that Caryn's principal is on board with the idea of hosting EdcampLA 2017 at Hawthorne High. It’s a great opportunity to make an impact at this school, community and connect with others locally. We are now in the process of securing the date in April. Fingers crossed.

Our last BIG edcampLA event was in January of 2015. Since that time many of our resident "old time", org team members have not been able to support due to professional or life changing events. (Its all good.) As a result, the need to branch out and seek new members to support is critical to keeping the EdcampLA movement alive. David and I observed that many San Diego County teams have incredible cohesiveness. We suspect it's because they are more closely connected, geographically. :) But we want to work to have that same kind of energy!

So...as we move ahead in 2017 it's important to know your availability. I'm asking for a response as to who still has a desire to continue this year. If not, no worries. But, please don't take offense as I will remove you from the Google Group so as not to spam you with our planning emails and meetings. I am hopeful that some of you will want to continue, but again, no worries if it's not an option this year.

Please be courteous in your response to this email. I am a collaborator, but I felt a bit bombarded by negative commentary last year when I was reaching out to try to pull a 2016 edcampLA together. My desire to keep EdcampLA alive comes from my roots of being on the first Edcamp Org Team in CA in 2011 and wanting to see us thrive going forward.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks,
Lisa

When we chatted at the summit, we had discussed finding a date the second half of April or early May. Can you let us know what dates are available? We will all need to sit down and pick a date and start planning. I think we can also request one of the new “EdCamp” in a box resource packs from Hadley to help us get started. We can also consider opportunities for the Impact grant for a project at your school or within the district.

Let us know what dates are available.

Good Afternoon Everyone,

I had a wonderful time in San Diego at the Edcamp Leadership Summit this last weekend. After attending my first edcamp in 2016, I knew that I wanted to duplicate this experience in Los Angeles.

After speaking with my principal Dr. Vanessa Landesfeind, she and I both agreed that holding an edcamp ( on the our campus of Hawthorne High School ) would be a great idea.

Please let me know what are the next steps to making this process come together.

Sincerely,

Caryn Charles

Thank you, Lisa and all. I won't be able to get involved this year, and take no offense at being dropped from the group thread. ;-)

Best of luck with everything, I am sure it will be a success.

Best regards,
- john

Margeaux! I just sent you an invite to our Google Group!

As soon as I hear back from the all the "old timers" we will be moving to a Slack group which is much easier to use to connect.

Talk soon,

Dear Lisa,
Thank you for your passionate EdCamp enthusiasm! I agree that it is important to keep the momentum going.

David, Stacie and Caryn, welcome to the team.

As many others have noted, I am no longer able to help with edcampLA going forward. My family will be relocating to Dallas, Texas this summer.

Best of luck with this year's unconference.

Jayme

Hi Everyone,

Welcome to David, Stacie, and Carynit's great to have you all on the team, and I'm excited to hear about the plans for 2017! I'm also happy to hear that we're looking at a South Bay edcamp. Do we have a tentative idea for a date? I'm happy to help market the event, but I'm not sure I have the bandwidth to do more detailed planning over the next few months with the projects we've got going on here.

Best,

M.
