Hi Everyone,

Congratulations for a successful event! I’ve been hearing great things, and I trust you all have too. Thanks to Lisa L. and everyone at Windward for doing such an amazing job hosting us! I hope you’re all getting some well deserved rest now.

Tomorrow, I’d like to send out a thank you note (feel free to edit!) to all our attendees with a few reminders, and before doing so, I want to touch base on a few things:

-General Assembly is extending a discount for classes and workshops to all attendees, and I’d like to share that with everyone. Are there any other sponsor messages to include?

-Have we selected a firm date for edcampLA 2016 yet? If not, I’m happy to report "Jan. 2016” and leave it at that.

-Do we have a formal count (or at least a rough estimate) for our final numbers? Eventbrite records 148 checkins, but I know we had more.

Anything else to include? Thanks again, and I hope you all enjoy the rest of the weekend!

Best,

M.

Thank you, Moss.

I am out now, but I know that we have the code for 10% off Ozobot and a code for an extended trial of flocabulary.  I can follow up with you in an hour or so with those codes.

Hey Moss,

Give me a chance to checkout the thank you before you send out.

We usually wait to have a debrief before we send out a thank you, so that all our input is gathered so let's hold off on this for just a bit.

We also send off individual thank you's to all sponsors so, we need to wait just a tad before we ship that out as well.

I will be sure to read the doc later this morning and the get back to you and the team.

Thanks,
-Lisa

Yes - agreed!  Also, great job on the letter Moss.

I sent an email to Flocabulary for an updated link.  I will follow up with them tomorrow, end of day, as I don't want to hold up sending out the thank you...always important to thank attendees as quickly, if not faster, than the thank yous they send to us.

That said, thanks again to all! Everything came together nicely and it was a pleasure working on the team.

Hi Lisa & all,

Just reading this on a debrief.  Will we meet this week?

I have DO meetings and appointments late on Thursday and Friday.  I will list my availability below, but please do not push back the meeting on my behalf (getting the thank yous out is essential).

Tues and Wed: anytime between 5:30p and 7:30p

Tues - Fri (lunch time): 12:30 - 1:15p

Apologies for limited availability this week. Next week is already about the same...

Best,

Great letter, Moss!

I have added some edits to the letter as we need need to talk about the wiki before we send out the thank you. The follow-up postings to the edcampLA wiki are on our home page. http://edcampla.wikispaces.com/Home

We often talk about how to keep the edcamp learning going and we want to offer this up to attendees to post resources or blogs to the wiki.

Jamie what are the credentials to our wiki?

SO...do we want to include the wiki in our thank you letter or just update the wiki with some cool stuff ourselves?

Let me know your thoughts?

Thanks!

Follow up: The wiki is not designed to have others invited to post. It's on us to post sessions, photos, resources, etc. We decied to make it this way years ago, but we could make it open to others to join. Thoughts?

I'd like to help with this so I've asked Jamie to add me to the wiki.

Let he know if you'd like to be added as well.

I'd like to add resources, photos, etc... to the wiki this week.

Thanks all!
-Lisa

Hi Lisa,

I like the idea of making resources available to everyone, post unconference.  In our GHO, we mentioned directing our peeps to the hashtag on Twitter (I already see people tweeting that they are doing this to go over the day and grab resources).  Rebel Mouse seems to also pull everything into one place.  We also have some photos on Yapp, although my thoughts are to disable this feature to keep everything flowing through the Rebel Mouse and keep Yapp for scheduling only.

My thoughts sometimes are that less is more (love succinct) - is there a way to minimize all the different places we send attendees for resources?  In other words, how does each tool benefit EdCampLA and the attendees?  Since I am not familiar with how many attendees typically use/visit the Wiki, I will ultimately need to defer to the team on how to proceed.

Best,
Nicol

I would agree Nicol. Although I think post edcamp resources are valuable, it's hard to keep up when most of us are on to other projects. Rebel Mouse is fairly maintenance free.

Along the lines of keeping up - since we did not attend all of the sessions, how might we capture/pull resources shared in sessions to post on the wiki?  The EdCamp model of attendees sharing out resources related to their own sessions is one that I appreciate.  I also like the idea of taking the position that we are not experts, rather the organizers of a co-constructed knowledge-sharing environment (virtual and/or f2f).  If others may want to keep the wikispace in place, is it possible to update it with an embed or link to Rebel Mouse for resources?  Thoughts?

Best,
Nicol

I can grab the embed code for the rebel mouse feed if the wiki can take it.

I prefer using a simple google doc to link resources from for participants on the EdcampLA.org page,  with the addition of the embedded rebelmouse for social media aggregation, but that's my personal preference.

I just invited everyone to be organizers on the Wiki so everyone has access no matter what we do.

So, create a spreadsheet or doc for participants to add their resources, and then embed this into the edcampla website?  Or, do we create a form for participants to add their resources to and then embed the spreadsheet?  Either seems like a good idea and low maintenance.  I have seen some tweets asking about a google doc from the event, so I am guessing other edcamps do this too?

Also, I am all for embedding the rebel mouse on the main website and all for the idea of sending everyone to this one website for access to everything.

Hi All,

On the wiki...Here is a link to the doc we used in 2014 for resources https://docs.google.com/document/d/1dThy-9M8CojUJ2uUKqI1zbD54OVtR4f6ecz5o3OXMis/edit

Here is a link on the wiki to the session board for 2014 http://edcampla.wikispaces.com/2014+Sessions

We also have tweets embedded in the wiki, SO...

I'd like to continue to keep the wiki and house session board for 2015 and Google Doc for 2015 on the wiki and embed the wiki on the blog. We have nice history with the wiki so I'd like to keep it. Is that an option?

Rebel Mouse could also be placed on the wiki, Yes?

Thoughts?

Hi Everyone,

Perhaps we could have asked in the survey where attendees prefer to access resources. In the meantime, the wiki should be a good place to archive materials. If that’s the case, can we finalize our thank you letter? We should send it out soon, I think.

Best,

M.

I'm good with Wiki as archive for all the years of EdcampLA, hadn't thought of it that way Lisa! Thank you letter looks good to me Moss.

I just wanted to give everyone a heads up that next year I will probably not be able to participate in the organizing team. My schedule is just so up in the air from quarter to quarter much less year to year depending on research opportunities and coursework that I don't think I can contribute as much as others. I'll plan on being an attendee, and if there's something I can help with please let me know, but I have to step back from everything except getting through the dissertation for the next year or two. Hope you all understand!

Best Wishes,
Jamie

Hi Everyone,

Would miss you both! Never let the hangover discourage you from another night at a party! In all honesty, I understand how much work a doctorate takes, Jamie.

By the way, the message from General Assembly was garbled in the email (including cutting out one of their offers), so I resent the formal blurb. Apologies for the spam!
