The Best Part was recorded from 1996 to 1999 and featured production by Prince Paul, DJ Premier, and Pete Rock. It was set for a 1999 release, but due to problems with his record label, Raw Shack Records, J-Live left the label and the album was shelved. J-Live moved to Payday Records, but when Payday's parent company London Records was bought from Universal Music Group by WEA, the album was again shelved. In 2001, copies surfaced as bootlegs and several were of such high quality it was rumored that J-Live himself was behind them. By the fall of 2001, after five years of label problems, The Best Part was finally officially released on Triple Threat Productions.[1][2][3]

Stanton Swihart of AllMusic gave the album 4.5 out of 5 stars, writing: "It is a truly cataclysmic tour de force, especially when you consider the hoops through which the music was forced to jump before it finally appeared, long overdue, in 2001."[4]

In 2015, Fact placed it at number 49 on the "100 Best Indie Hip-Hop Records of All Time" list.[9] In that year, HipHopDX included it on the "30 Best Underground Hip Hop Albums Since 2000" list.[10]

Part II is the second studio album by American country music artist Brad Paisley. Released on May 29, 2001, through Arista Nashville, it became Paisley's second platinum-certified album in the United States. It produced four singles; "Two People Fell in Love", "Wrapped Around", "I'm Gonna Miss Her (The Fishin' Song)" and "I Wish You'd Stay", which respectively reached number 4, number 2, number 1, and number 7 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks (now Hot Country Songs) charts. "Too Country" also entered the country charts from unsolicited airplay.

The title for Paisley's second album as well as the songs on it were inspired by the movie, Father of the Bride Part II, the follow-up to the movie he went to see on his first date with a certain girl several years before his first record deal. They had long since broken up but when the sequel to the movie came out, Paisley couldn't help thinking about her. And wondering if she was thinking about him. "I ended up going to see (the sequel) on the exact day, at the exact same showing that we saw the first one," he says. "I did it on purpose thinking she might be there, too. Well, of course, she wasn't. No one is that psychotic except me."

Disappointed, Paisley channeled his feelings by writing a song with his best friend and frequent songwriting partner, Kelley Lovelace. "We started talking," Paisley says, "and the line came out: 'Hollywood never fails to make a sequel' and 'Why can't love be more like that?' Then, I remember thinking that (Part II) would be a really great title for a second album. And a great concept.[7]" To emphasize the sequel theme, the album opens with strings playing "In the Garden", exactly as the previous album had ended.

The album includes a cover of Darrell Scott's bluegrass standard "You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive", which Paisley chose to record because, being a native of West Virginia, he had seen the effect that coal mining had on communities in that region.[8]

We've been into Part Time's recordings for a while, and how could we not be? Everything about Part Time's music appeals with its synthy soundscapes and remarkable melodies sitting atop catchy grooves. And unlike some artists who stumble when translating their recorded output to a live situation, Part Time also delivers in person. After catching a recent live New Year's Eve show at Non Plus Ultra that also included Gary Wilson & the Blind Dates, and Jimmy Whispers, we knew we had to get a few moments with Part Time. We sat down with David Loca (a.k.a.Part Time) to talk recordings, live shows, a new album, and more.

DL: That was a little band I had in Austin when I first moved away from El Paso. It was me doing home recordings in garages or whatever rooms I was in. It was really weird and very fun. [It was] garage, psychedelic stuff, synth stuff. I just poured in everything that I liked.

DL: It was a big, slow transition. It solidified when I was in S.F. When I quit the Time Flys, I put all my efforts into recordings and synths. I had a tiny apartment where I lived and recorded songs, and gave my CDs to all my friends. I think Tamaryn, who was on Mexican Summer, passed my music on to that label and they started putting out my old recordings.

DL: Julian Casablancas has been a fan of my music since my first album came out in 2012. The Drums like my music, and took me on a big tour, which I was very grateful for. I hit a lot of different people with the music, and Julian Casablancas was one of them. It was a sold-out show in New York, and later he wrote me. He wanted to work with Part Time since then, but I was tied up with label obligations. Finally it's happened.

BW: You say that H.F.M. just came out (released by Plastic Response, Danger Collective, and Lolipop Records), but there was an earlier version of that that came out a couple years ago on Plastic Response, right?

Mettler: Yeah, that album was pretty much a one-man special. [Rundgren sings and plays all the instruments himself on the first three sides of Something/Anything?, and then he had a number of musicians join him in a few different studios for the live sessions heard on Side 4.]

Earl: Yeah, yeah. Great track. [Bassist] Tony Stevens originally wrote the song with Dave. [As alluded to earlier, Tony, Dave, and Roger were all members of Savoy Brown together prior to forming Foghat with Rod Price as the final, vital piece.]
