uvm_hdl_deposit() isn't affecting dut

I was playing w/backdoor write/reads. I can get the reads back, but the write never actually changes the dut. I was wondering if this just doesn't work in EDAPlayground or if I somehow have my code setup wrong. In a barebones test I call uvm_hdl_deposit("top.dut.reg0",111).
