Media Advisory:   “United for Immigration Reform 2010” Makes Final Push for May 1st March on Olympic & Broadway

What: Press conference with immigrant rights leaders of faith, community, and labor who will be joined by community members to talk about the upcoming May 1st march. Immigrants from around the world will also share their personal stories to show the need for immigration reform in 2010. The press conference will end with a prayer led by leaders of diverse faiths.

When: Tuesday, April 27th, 10:30 – 11:00 AM

Where: Olympic and Broadway which is the beginning point of the march. Parking is available   at nearby parking lots

Who:    Community members will share their testimonies about how immigration reform will        impact their lives and why they will be marching on May 1st. Representatives of the four     coalitions that are organizing the May 1st march will also speak. The coalitions are: Full   Rights for Immigrants, March 25 Coalition, MIWON and Southern California    Immigration Coalition. 100 community members are expected to participate in the    press conference.

Why:   May 1st is International Workers’ Day and this year, tens of thousands are expected to
march for comprehensive immigration reform, demanding reform in 2010, stopping the
raids, deportation and separation of families, and establishing good jobs and workers’    rights for all. The momentum is building for immigration reform, as we saw with the    recent announcement of Senator Harry Reid and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s statement          reaffirming their commitment to prioritize immigration reform this year. The need for             reform is ever so urgent as immigrants are terrorized and live in daily fear, such as the     impact SB 1070 had to communities of color in Arizona. The immigrant community and allies will continue to     push elected officials to come through their promises for          immigration reform in 2010.
