PAL I and PAL B/G

If anyone has any recommendations for particular cards, I'd be most
interested.

My Hauppauge card is great, came with a free remote control and I've
managed to find out how to get it to control any program on my computer
too (Winamp is much nicer as a jukebox now).

It would for putting a signal back out to a VCR presumably?
Which Hauppage model did you get? Does it come with any video editing
software? What's the scripts for grabbing teletext info to a spreadsheet
like?
I've kinda narrowed the choice down to something like the Primio or
Theatre versus the Pinnacle StuidioTV Pro. The webtext on the Pinnacle
looks nice and it does have some video software, though I suppose I
could buy that separately anyway. Looks like the Pinnacle may not do
multiple teletext pages though, and that would be nice.

So you can use the infrared input of the TV card as a menu driver for
other proggies? Strangely I'd thought of setting up an MP3 jukebox on a
hard disk using something like that. However the 'puter is at the other
end of the flat from the living room so I'd need to run a video cable
through to the television (as well as audio cable to the hifi) to
display jukebox menus. The final link would have to be an infrared link
in the living room to one in the spare room. Presumably some sort of
addon RF widget could do this...

PAL I is the UK system.
Any card you buy here should support that.

The cards based on the Brooktree 848 and similar (eg the Hauppauge
cards) are well supported in the free OSes. Brooktree were very
efficient in sending me programming details.

I got the Hauppauge WinTV PCI FM
It has a NICAM stereo TV, and FM Radio tuner with free remote control

Yes, it's all done by editing an ini file.

Basically PAL I in UK, PAL B/G in rest of Western Europe (not France)
-> rather annoyingly the sound sub-carrier is @ 6MHz with PAL I but 5.5 with
PAL B/G so a German VCR gives a satisfactory picture, but awful/no sound
