1st Year Buddies

Gang,

We SAGE folks are working to match up 1st years with buddies.  This is no easy task it turns out because we have a mismatching number of students (17 new students) and student programs. (Almost no EFPP and 4 literacy)

So, if you could, to help us out, please shoot me an email (don't reply all it isn't necessary) with the following info:

1) Are you interested in having a buddy?

2) Who is your advisor?

We have more 1st years in literacy that we have students in literacy in our cohort.  If you are in literacy, do you know 2nd years or 3rd years who might be interested in having a 1st year buddy?  Send me their names and advisors if you know that info.

Basically being a point person resource for them for advice about settling into Boulder, the program  the university, etc. There's no formal responsibilities, so it might entail answering questions by email, getting together for coffee, etc. The nature of the relationship is really up to your availability and your buddies needs. We're hoping to pair folks up earlier in the summer so they'll know someone when they get into town, if they're moving here, and generally help people feel more comfortable and integrated into the program! You won't be expected to host them at your house to stay, take them out to dinner, or anything like that.

This is what we got last year from, in the way of what a buddy does:

"A a second year "buddy" in your program area who can answer any general questions you have about the program, living in Boulder, etc. Your buddy will also be a good resource for tips  and suggestions on courses and the routines and requirements of the first year."

You would be resposible for contacting them ASAP and giving them advice about the program, moving here, etc.  We also might do a mixer before orientation.  Otherwise it kinda comes down to you and you buddy as to how much you actually do together.  I got lunch once with Jessica.  That's about it.

Oh, and it's kind of an expectation (from Michele) that people do this but I am willing to go to bat for you if you really are not interested.
