New Hampshire Cycling Club has put together a new event for dirt road lovers: The Kearsarge Klassic Dirt Randonnee, aka K2. This is the first year of the event, which we hope to grow into a New England fall classic in the coming years.
This event is a mostly dirt loop in central New Hampshire. The epic circuit is one of the hardest, most beautiful and most fun loops you will ever ride. The route is just over 85 miles long with over 8,000 feet of climbing. That climbing will earn you spectacular and beautiful views of some of the most scenic parts of New Hampshire. About seventy percent of the routes are on dirt roads (less for the 35 mile circuit). The roads are easily rideable with a cyclocross bike. The dirt roads and secondary paved roads are traffic free (for the most part), hilly, scenic, twisty and just plain fun. The roads traverse many of the properties conserved by the Ausbon Sargent Land Preservation Trust. Riders who select the epic circuit will have the opportunity to enjoy a cool down dip in a beautiful brook preserved by the Ausbon Sargent Land Preservation Trust. The event also offers a middle distance circuit of 65 miles that also includes lots of climbing, scenic viewpoints, twist!
y and fun roads and lunch. For the recreational rider, a 35 mile loop is offered with a lunch stop. The 35 mile loop is not hill free, but the climbing will be less demanding than the longer circuits. Rest stops and lunch will be provided for all circuits.
The event is a fundraiser for the Ausbon Sargent Land Preservation Trust. All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Trust and used for land preservation. It will be a fun and memorable day of riding. I hope you will be able to join us for this event. Leslie Ludtke
