Looking for an option to run Dreamweaver on a Windows 10 computer that will never connect to the Internet. I've been a long time Dreamweaver/Fireworks user, but am being migrated to Windows 10 soon. My challenge is that my work is on an intranet that will never connect to the internet, which I understand eliminates the CC products per a chat with Adobe. Per -requirements.html#id_55336 the CS versions are not Windows 10 compatilbe. I currently have Dreamweaver CS5.5 and Fireworks 5. The software works fine, but since Adobe says compatiblilty ends at Windows 7, the network accreditation people say I need another option. Any recommendations?

Then use a file transfer program installed on another computer to transfer your pages to or from your server. Thus completely isolating the windows 7 computer completely, that way it would not become a possible security risk to any other computers.

Adobe is either lying to you, or the person you chatted with is incompetent (very likely). I run Dreamweaver CS3, CS5, and CS6 (my favorite version) on several Windows 10 machines without any issues. I also run Fireworks CS3 and CS5 without issue. These "ACPs" should really be sanctioned for not mentioning this to you.

I think the vast majority of problems reported in the Creative Suite forums are from people who have upgraded their old machines from Win7/8/8.1 to Win10. A clean machine with a fresh install of Win10 will almost always perform better than an upgraded one. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. I would definitely try it.

Microsoft has a certification process for desktop applications under Windows 10 and Adobe has no plans to work through that on the old software. I don't know what is actually involved (there is quite a bit of info about it on Microsoft's site), but anything requiring a change to the program's underlying code would be a non-starter, Adobe has washed their hands of the old versions.

I simply added the other versions for the benefit of other folks who might read the thread, because if an Adobe rep told this poor soul that Dreamweaver CS 5.5 does not work on Windows 10, that Adobe rep is full of crap.

My windows 7 machine downloaded an Adobe Dreamweaver CS6 update, and since that time, none of the Project 7 material will work. I refuse to purchase the Adobe CC Dreamweaver. Did a subscription with them after the Adobe person said you did not have to have internet access. Of course, you have to have access, and I could not use the software, and was forced to pay for a subscription that could not be used. I cancelled the subscription and I refuse to purchase anything more from Adobe.

My answer would be Netbeans: great editor, html/css/js validation and syntax checking while you type, built-in project templates for starting up html/app projects, great project management built-in, local version control/history built-in and by default activated (so no worries about losing work or edits), infinitely configurable, full git/svn/mercurial support, code refactoring, excellent search and replace, database support, built-in local webserver if needed, and much more. Also a nice Chrome addon (can be downloaded in advance) for live bi-directional css editing with Chrome's Inspect Element function.

A relative newcomer, it is quite similar to Fireworks, and supports exporting your work/elements on a per object basis and with multiple assets for different outputs (1x, 2x,...). It's the spiritual successor to Freehand, but modernized, and with web/mobile asset export options built-in. Also includes a similar effects workflow as Fireworks does.

All - Thanks for the prompt replies. I'm going to see if I can get permission to install my current software on the new computer. My Win10 will be a fresh install on a new machine. There are many rules for the network and the assessment process for new software is challenging, but I'll keep them as a backup.

I've worked in rigorously controlled networks/computer environments before myself, and I could always (except this one time where even unknown executables were forbidden and tracked via a white-list) bring in a USB key with my own portable applications, run them, and work with them.

Many applications will work portable on Windows. Copy the portable version of Gravit Designer to a USB drive/key. A portable version of Netbeans, Atom, and other applications are available too. For example:

Dreamweaver hangs while loading. Sometimes says Loading Site Cache but not always. Using very little CPU, some netword. Files are on remote server through VPN. It has always been slow but this is catastrophic.

What do you mean by files are on remote server VPN? You should be working with a local site folder that resides on your primary hard drive, not a networked our cloud drive. DW is incapable of caching and editing remotely hosted files.

Which files are on a remote server? Your local site? Your testing server? Reinstalling software won't help connecting to a remote connection as it sounds this is a remote server issue. Can you try loading up a local site and see if you experience the same issue?

Please DO NOT use Dropbox for your local site folders. This set-up will cause a huge strain on performance. You may copy sites to DropBox as backups but DW can't interact fast enough with cloud drives.

Thanks for the advice about Dropbox. I use Dropbox a lot, but not for my web sites. My three web sites are stored on a Drobo hard drive array--Drobo is a brand, nothing to do with Dropbox! A Drobo array is like a RAID array but it's a proprietary system. It looks like a single drive to the system. Drobos are fast--I use them for audio and video in my studio. My web sites have been on Drobo arrays for years without any problem with Dreamweaver.

Windows 8 may be your issue here as it is not supported by Dreamweaver. The last version to support Windows 8 was v19. Support for Windows 8 also ended in 2016 by Microsoft ( -us/office/windows-8-end-of-support-and-office-34e28be4-1e4f-4928-b2... ). Are you able to update your system to a newer operating system? Otherwise it might be time for an new upgraded machine to resolve your issue.

Comparing your problem to the original poster, are you working on a network server through a VPN or where are your sites saved? Also as you have been working up to this point with the site cache disabled, have you tried enabling it to see if the reverse scenario solves your issue? For the original poster they went to the following location and removed the folder to have the preferences of Dreamweaver reset:

well, here at the studio, our local files are necessarily deposited on a shared space, simply because we work as a team, and having each of us to have our own local files is a concept that on the one hand becomes unmanageable (too many synchronization steps), unthinkable (too many projects), ... and above all ... above all ... it works well that way.

The only one to cause problems in an erratic way, is DW... which sometimes starts to enter infinite loops, undertakes incomprehensible latencies, in short, it stalls... and then suddenly returns to normal...

I did *not* have this issue when I re-installed it on my windows XP workstation 8 months ago, but I'm getting it all the time with my new Windows 8.1 laptop. I have a *suspicion* it has something to do with Windows not allowing Dreamweaver to write to data files so my serial number is never actually being recorded, but I don't know for certain.

Dreamweaver 8 was designed for Windows 2000, Windows XP and Macintosh Mac OS X 10.3 and 10.4. You should still be able to use it on those operating systems, but it is such an old version that it is no longer supported and was not designed to run on the more current 64 bit operating systems.

I've tried everything and it just makes no sense. It's a text editor, but each time I place my cursor inside Dreamweaver it takes about 2 minutes to think about it first. Then it works for 5 seconds, then it still deliberates for another minute and then it allows me to continue typing. I can keep typing just fine, but the second I switch focus to the browser and come back, it's the same thing all over again.
I've tried turning off everything I could:

I've been trying to disable git too, but it just doesn't go away. I want to use git, but I don't plan to use git with dreamweaver, why am I being forced to see all the highlights? And if that's what slowing everything down, I sort of wanna punch the code in the face.

Anywho, if you had similar problem and solved, please, PLEASE tell me what to do. This is an editor in 2018. My notepad on Windows 3.11 never had as much lag. Could Windows version be an issue? I'm using Windows 7. I'm a paying member for multiple CC subscription (at home and at work). Both computers have the same (or similar) issues.

I asked the person assisting me with this why this is the case, but I couldn't get a clear answer, in either case that had solved the issue for me, so if anyone else is dealing with it, give that a shot.

It is slow. It can range from merely slow to agonizingly slow. It is a little faster on Windows 10 as it is on Windows 7. Don't let anyone, especially from Adobe, lead you to believe the problem is caused by your computers and not by Adobe code.
