I moved to linux 3 months ago . I used a software called memreduct on windows that helped me to clear my memory(ram). So, after moving to linux, I discovered that mem reduct is not available for linux. So is there anything else I can use?

Hello everyone i recently found out about this application for my macbook air called "Memory Clean" and i was wondering how efficient this is in cleaning up ram space? is using it a waste of time? is the app safe? etc.

The memory is in use the way it is (in 10.9 and 10.10) in order to reduce delays in accessing data, using Memory Clean to empty it just causes the Mac to have to waste time refilling it. And so on, over and over again.

I then came across this app on the mac app store called MEMORY CLEAN i guessed it was just a gui interface that ran a purge command, but upon running it it seems to clean the unused memory in a different way, which dosnt cause the hole system to freeze.

You do not want to "clean" your memory. This usually involves dumping the disk cache, which is very bad for system performance. The purge command is provided as a part of Apple's developer tools for debugging, testing, and dealing with specific issues that are related to performance-testing as if a system was freshly booted. This will considerably slow down your system.

In general, you want almost 0 free memory - any memory not being used by active applications should be in the "inactive" pool, which means that it's 100% available if an application needs it, but it is actively being used by the system to accelerate your harddrive.

Every time you access a file on your harddrive, if there is enough free memory, OS X (and Windows, and Linux) will copy the file into inactive memory. This way, if something tries to read the file again, it will read it from RAM and not from your harddrive, which can be several thousand times faster. There are many system files which are read very frequently, and disk caching is critical for system performance because of this.

Hi, i know it's kinda stupid question, but on the other hand I need to ask i have found program memory cleaner which clears memory on 80% usage - "noice" less lags and memory leaks. Can devs or staff elaborate I am just testing it but here is a link
@necuja would be glad if you answer or find a dev which would THX

hey, I do not see why this would be an issue. I use a program from iobit that has this as a feature, to relieve ram from areas it doesn't need to be used in. If all it is doing is the same thing, clearing ram that is being used in background then you will be fine

Im just gonna add one thing, this thing may help you if you configure it properly, test different settings, by accident u can set wrong parameters and actually choke your pc resulting in a crash when overloaded.

There has also been some unconfirmed issues of people's PC crashing or their games from memory cleaners. As Deadlyslob (prominent EFT twitch streamer) has mentioned, he had a PC crash and stopped using his memory cleaner.

A suggested alternative is simply to re-launch your client (game) every few raids in order to dump the memory without any risks.

it is getting about time to fix this god awful memory leak don't you think, seeing as this was posted in may, and it is giving me grief now, I can only hope for a fix I guess. Game stutters to 1fps, max load on my ram (12gb DDR3) game runs fine some patches, doesn't other times. Memory cleaner doesn't seem to do anything to alleviate the problem

I have been using this program for a long time and seems to help especially in parts of the Syria map. Go to options and turn on both options to clean ram at 80 percent. It seems to help free up ram and keeps it from maxing out. Let me know if this helps anyone. It runs in the background but uses almost no resources. Have a great evening.

I don't generally use it at the moment as I've not tested to confirm it actually helps performance at all, like @DeltaMike pointed out above, if you clear the ram then you might just be needing to fill it back up again. I don't know enough about memory allocation/usage to quantify how well this works, more testing needed

I haven't checked the actual memory usage of my 32gb with and without memorycleaner. Right now, the VR stutters that were plaguing my game after a while seems to be gone. I can play as much as I want without restarting / alt-tabing DCS.

One possible explanation could be related to some kind of memory leak that fills the RAM forcing the system to swap data on the hard drive.Since the RAM is prevented from being maxed out, there is no swap file on the HD and no VR stutters. I know it seems simplistic as an explanation, but it's plausible enough to me.

I keep getting a pop-up that says: "iPhone Memory is Full". It then prompts me to "Clean Memory" by clicking on a link which it claims will then direct me the App Store where I'm supposed to install the "Smart Cleaner" app. There is such an app in the store, but I'm still pretty sure this is some type of scam because when I check my phone's capacity, I have 83GB available from a total capacity of 128GB.

Ok- so i am asking about my iPhone 13 Pro that keeps telling me my memory is full - this switcher sounds like I need to go to the desktop and do those steps- what am I not understanding here - sorry to ask if this is silly question cuz I really do appreciate the help-

There is a reason why they are called system files. Most of them are used to run your system and programs like you are used to it. So if you don't know what you are doing, don't mess around with them!

Memory is normally RAM. Linux manages its RAM automatically, no cleaning needed; if there is some process misbehaving and using too much RAM, you just stop it. Browsers are classical offenders there; I need to close mine (and restart) every couple of weeks. Gnome-shell is another well-known memory leaker.

Consider anyway that if you clear a cache, the data will need to be reloaded/rebuilt, so the effect is, most of the time, to slow things down(1). For example, clearing the nautilus thumbnails means they are to be rebuilt again --- slowing down file browsing.

If your system is really slowing down a "rogue" or leaking application is the most common reason. Try to catch it with top or similar tools, and if you find it, post a more specific question or a bug report.

Memory Cleaner, a software application that keeps tabs on your RAM usage and helps you to prune your processes' working set or clear the cache to make way for more memory, is a tool that tech-savvy users may have conflicting opinions about. While modern operating systems like Windows Vista and newer versions have the ability to manage memory quite capably, there are still certain scenarios when having a specialized memory-cleaning tool on standby could be beneficial.Enter Memory Cleaner, a lithe utility that's engineered to optimize the system's RAM and rev up the computer's overall performance. Unlike other similar tools out there, this app banks on Windows' built-in features, so it's an option that's much safer to use.Once you're done with a quick and uneventful installation, you can easily access the tool and get to freeing up memory at a moment's notice. Plus, if you've minimized it, don't fret: the interface can still be opened from the System Tray. The program is designed with a user-friendly interface that makes it a cinch to use, so it's perfect for everyone from seasoned techies to newbies who've never dipped their toes into the realm of memory-cleaning tools. The key functions of the tool are arranged in tabs, with Memory and Options being the main ones. The Memory tab offers information about memory usage, pagefile, virtual memory, as well as the average, maximum, and minimum usage, so you can effortlessly trim processes' working set and clear the system cache. Keep in mind that the first option requires a bit of technical experience. One of the best features of the program is its ability to automatically optimize system performance based on your settings, all of which can be configured from the Options tab. Nevertheless, it's important to note that the extent of the boost in performance and the amount of memory you can free up will ultimately depend on your specific system. All things considered, Memory Cleaner is an intuitive and lightweight tool that streamlines the process of clearing up RAM memory and improving your system's performance, without any headaches or hassle.Features of Memory Cleaner
