I know that only 4 & 5 have these S rank all difficulties type trophies, but, out of all 5 DMC games on the whole it's by far the easiest to get S-ranks in, both legitimately and even moreso if you use the cheese methods. Therefore I couldn't possibly justify those high-end ratings given to this game.
Most the high ratings comes from the earlier rushed out guides by the more 'mainstream' guide writers (the kind who generally cover the latest AAA and put them out as quickly after launch as possible). This isn't to say they're stupid or 'wrong' by any means, it's just that very early impressions of difficulty from people who typically cover easier games can often be a bit over inflated.
Sounds like an oversimplification and like it's an 'easier said than done' situation but honestly no. DMC as a series has never been a hard game to BEAT or even to go through without getting hit outside of perhaps some boss encounters (of which you'll end up pretty familiar with after a couple playthroughs). What makes DMC more difficult and the real core of the experience is doing it with style which is where the S ranks can become a tad trickier on some of the other games as there's more scoring metrics to juggle. Because of the multiplier for not getting hit however you're almost assured an S rank in 5 regardless whether you play it safe and just spam the same powerful and effective moves over and over. You don't need a deep understanding of the combat system, you just need to know what works best and is most comfortable for you without opening yourself up to damage and keep using it over and over.
There are very few levels in which you could theoretically fall short even with the no damage bonus but still unlikely. This leaves one level (one of the 'intended loss' type boss encounters) as the main 'hurdle' as it's a longer more involved fight of endurance to do without being hit and letting yourself lose this encounter will mean you do need to amass some style points here. There are still plenty of ways to make that easier though such as taunting start of encounters as well as what could be an optional fight which is easy and great for boosting your overall style rating and preferable to not skip. It's not the tightest level to do with style points by any means, it's actually fairly easy compared to others, it's just the only one where you may not be able to utilise the no damage bonus as a crutch.
well, the first thing you need to do is beat the game on easy or normal(you have to play in both difficulties anyway) and collect all collectibles, dont worry about ranks or anything just enjoy the game. After you're done with your first playthrough use the mission 13 farming method i recommend to farm 50 million orbs but with 20 mill is alright if you dont want to spend a lot of hours farming, then you should buy all the skills for all characters(though you cant buy a certain skill for dante until you beat hard mode) next thing to do is get familiar with nero air combat use this guide for the basics ,with dante the only thing you need is dr faust just spam it, with V activate assist mode and spam the attack button(dont forget to deactivate it after you finish a mission with him) now the only thing left is to get the S ranks
Hard: here is when things get complicated, you have two options to approach this difficulty and the ones above. First try not get hit for the entire mission it dosent really matter how you perform in combat as long as you dont get hit the S rank is almost guaranteed, the second option is to get the most amount of points in combat wich means you need to get S SS and SSS you dont need to be perfect but try to maintain an S for atleats 40 seconds
Dante must die: this is when you need to use all the knowledge and expierience you gained throughout your playthroughs, in this this difficulty enemies will use devil trigger that means they'll have a whooping 300% increase in damage and defense this basically means you'll die in like two hits, and if you die the S ranks is gone
Hell or Hell: this difficulty is going to test your limits, you die in one hit and if you die 3 times you have to restart the mission from the begining, that being said to get the S ranks you really don wanna get hit, if you do it still possible but you need to get a bunch of SS and SSS

I am aiming to close my trophy hunting or at least slow it down with the DMC5 plat.
If you're going for the PS5 version, the experience overall should be slightly easier, with the adding of features like High Frame-Rate mode, quicker load times, allowing for a smoother use of the checkpoint system/exploit, and leading to less frustration in general when you need to retry a mission. I never played it on PS5, my platinum trophy is from the PS4 version, and I can guarantee you that even on my PS4 Pro, the load times were quite long, possibly lasting up to 2-3 minutes. The only drawback is that you're gonna inevitably have to deal with the Bloody Palace and Vergil trophies for the platinum, while they were optional/tied to 100% completion on the PS4 version. Legendary Dark Knight mode also adds an exclusive PS5 trophy. They aren't that difficult though, provided that you take a good approach.
If the extra items you are referring to are the DLC Devil Breakers and Cavaliere R, be reassured to know that they are not required at all for the platinum, I got it without them. But I guess it never hurts having them as a bonus. Don't buy any Red Orbs with real currency, they can easily be farmed with a special method in Mission 13.
It's perfectly fine if you haven't played a DMC for a while, you don't need huge knowledge of the previous installments to beat this one. Sure, it could help, but it would just be some minor details like knowing how to use Stinger with Dante, familiarizing yourself with his Styles... Nothing too problematic.
The 2 hardest trophies will be "Highway to Hell" and "Worthy of Legend". The rest can be overcome with patience. Completing the game on DMD won't be a walk in the park, but you can always pave your way by reviving yourself with Gold Orbs or Red Orbs.
I highly recommend to not focus on getting S-Ranks at first, you can always do cleanups later. Don't stress too much over the ultimate challenge (Hell and Hell), it would be pointless to panic about it during your first playthrough. If I had to compare this platinum to another 10/10 like Wolfenstein II, I'd say at least, all your progression/each S-Rank gained is saved, unlike Mein Leben's permadeath feature. Everything can be done offline, there's no threat of a server shutdown, so morality is: take your time.
Personally, I used the Super Costumes to finish Hell and Hell mode for the first time, it'll penalize your score x0.2, making attaining S-Ranks impossible, but then you'll have the luxury of being able to choose any mission in the order you want for S-Ranks cleanups. In my opinion, it's better to slay this insane mode with infinite devil trigger to have an easier time, rather than being stuck on a particular mission blocking your entire path. This way, you could do the missions by order of difficulty for example, starting with the easier S-Ranks to leave the hardest for last. Or by focusing on 1 character at a time (that's what I did) to fully master him and get used to his controls/moveset. If you wish to proceed similarly, I suggest to keep Dante for last as you'll have accumulated tons of Red Orbs with Nero and V, drastically reducing the Red Orbs grinding for Dr. Faust.
If you repeatedly fail a mission, maybe consider opting for a different strategy, like another set of Devil Breakers, a new placement... If it still doesn't work, don't hesitate to take a break or try the next mission instead.
For Mission 1, no need to fight the enemies, feel free to skip them all, go straight to the Boss. The Boss itself is kinda weak, it will be tough only in Hell and Hell due to its one-hit attacks potentially coming from every direction. You gotta be very careful about everything happening on your screen and not get distracted, a bit like with Cuphead bosses.
Mission 11, build your Devil Trigger Gauge during the first optional fight. Not risky at all as it's right at the beginning of the mission, if you get hit, immediately restart, you won't lose much progress anyway. Transfer the power from the regular DT gauge to the SDT gauge. Thus, you can activate Sin Devil Trigger in the first mandatory fight against the Fury, go for an insta-kill grab with Demolition (press and hold ). Way easier than matching with its lightning speed.
Devil May Cry 5's platinum trophy is extremely hard, legitimately it would definitely be a 10/10 in terms of difficulty, but resorting to exploits/glitches/cheese strategies can drop it to a solid 9/10.
The worst mission to get an S rank will be 10, I tried it several times with almost a perfect run, an sss combo on every fight and still didnt get an s rank at the end, only after I managed to not get hit (which is even more difficult,as you fight a boss here you are supposed to lose to), so this should be the mosst difficult mission.
For V just spam the charged up Griffon attack, you will almost every time get an sss rank after that, and keep it with shadow combos. As for nightmare, just use him as a summon to deal area damage, then despawn him, as for me personally he is to slow to be a huge help in battle, unless its for a boss.
And Nero is really fun, with his 15 different breakers. The best one is definitely Gerbera I think, the one that lets you move in the air. After that punchline does big damage if you charge it up + ragtime for the furies if you have any problems with them, and keep 1-2 buster arms for bosses and use it when they are stunned, this is the most damaging move in Neros arsenal.
