Thisstory takes place in a dystopian-esque world where there are brown leaves and a red sun, worshiping anyone but their dictator/god is treasonous and terrifying mist is everywhere. The general populace is scared of going out into this, but many nobles are Mistings, with the ability to burn Allomantic metals, granted to their ancestors by the Lord Ruler. Those with this power can either burn one or all of them- the latter group are known as Mistborns. The peasant group- the Skaa- have been suppressed for a thousand years but a new revolt finally offers hope- led by a rare half-Noble and rarer Skaa Mistborn.

We start on a farm where the famous Kelsier (the only man sent to the Pits of Hathsin who came out alive) arrives to kill a gross noble Lord who enjoys sleeping with young girls then killing them, along with all his men, which means all the workers have to join rebels in a cave.

At their next meeting, the team decide to turn the houses against each other with a house war, raise an army through persusasion to challenge the Garrison, and Vin suggests they distract the enemy to level the playing field. They plan to use Renoux (a man who has taken on the role of the real (now dead) Renoux), while Vin will act as his relative. His brother Marsh accuses Kelsier of hijacking the true rebellion that Marsh was dedicated to, but he agrees to consider helping. Kelsier begins to train Vin how to use her Allomancy but she remains distrusting of him due to her past experiences: spying; trailing; suspecting he is hiding information from her. He shows her a creature called a Mistwraith, then introduces her to a Terrisman, a group of servants below nobles but above skaa, who according to Vin are not known for their humour

The Concord Point colt, mentioned in BloodHorse Daily's Races to Watch, faced nine rivals in the six-furlong maiden special weight for 3-year-olds. Under jockey Fernando De La Cruz, Exclamation Point battled for the lead out of the gate, and once he secured the front he was pressed every step of the way by Augie . After running opening fractions of :22.21 and :45.71 for a half-mile, Exclamation Point drew clear in the final furlong to win despite lugging in late. The final time was 1:10.56 over a fast track.

Exclamation Point and Classic Empire are out of the Cat Thief mare Sambuca Classica . While his older champion brother was purchased for $475,000 out of the 2015 Keeneland September yearling sale by John Oxley, Exclamation Point was kept to race by the Nicholsons.

In addition to Ashford Stud's new resident Classic Empire, Sambuca Classica has also produced stakes winners Anytime Magic (Fusaichi Pegasus ) and Uptown Twirl (Twirling Candy ). She has a yearling Candy Ride filly who was bred in Kentucky by China Horse Club International.

A new leak of confidential documents expands the list of big companies seeking secret tax deals in Luxembourg, exposing tax-saving maneuvers by American entertainment icon The Walt Disney Co., politically controversial Koch Industries Inc. and 33 other companies.

Disney and Koch Industries, a U.S.-based energy and chemical conglomerate, both created tangles of interlocking corporations in Luxembourg that may have helped them slash the taxes they pay in the U.S. and Europe, according to the documents obtained by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists.

Other companies appearing in the newest leaked files include Hong Kong-based conglomerate Hutchison Whampoa, private equity firm Warburg Pincus, and Internet phone giant Skype. One of the Skype files relates to a restructuring in which Internet mega-marketer eBay sold a controlling stake in Skype to private investors. Skype, based in Luxembourg, is now a division of Microsoft.

Ernst & Young, KPMG, PwC and Deloitte have all declined to answer detailed questions regarding the tax agreements and instead cited their global codes of conduct requiring that their employees comply with the law and behave ethically.

The internal bank made loans to many of the subsidiaries at high interest rates, draining profits from those companies that were often in high-tax countries back to Luxembourg in the form of interest payments. In addition, a Cayman Islands subsidiary, which legally owns at least 16 Disney companies in Europe and Australia, sent its profits to Luxembourg in the form of annual dividends.

Koch says Invista is headquartered in the United States. However, U.S. and other operations are owned by a holding company incorporated in the Netherlands, a low-tax country, where it reports financial results.

Koch Industries admitted in 2011 that one of the key companies in its Luxembourg holdings, Invista S..r.l., had funneled a dozen illegal campaign contributions to state political candidates in Virginia, Delaware and Kansas and to the U.S. Democratic Governors Association. The company agreed to pay a fine of $4,700.

The Center for Responsive Politics calculated that David Koch and his wife Julia contributed at least $2.4 million to political candidates and groups during the 2014 election cycle, while Charles Koch and his wife Elizabeth contributed about $2.3 million. Each of the brothers, through trusts, contributed $2 million to the nascent Freedom Partners Action Fund super-political action committee.

Companies also use a strategy called cost-sharing, where they attribute some of the costs of developing new products to foreign subsidiaries, according to Stephen Shay, a professor of practice at Harvard Law School and a former international tax official at the U.S. Treasury. That way they can attribute the profits from those products, or the licensing of trademarks and patents, to the company outside the U.S.

According to Bloomberg, U.S. companies in the S&P 500 have $1.95 trillion in profits stashed overseas. They have lobbied for a temporary reduction in the corporate tax rate on dividends from those profits, or a so-called repatriation holiday.

Multinational corporations based in the U.S. have booked 6.1 percent of their foreign profits in Luxembourg while recording only 0.6 percent of sales in the Duchy, according to Clausing, who based her calculations on data from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis. The same companies have only one-tenth of one percent of their foreign employees based in Luxembourg.

Global accounting and tax advisory firms, including Ernst & Young, are prime architects of the inventive profit-shifting strategies that allow multinational companies to cut taxes via the Grand Duchy and other low-tax jurisdictions.

These investments may be at risk after the document leaks that have exposed how Luxembourg officials and global tax firms cooperate to help companies avoid paying the taxes in the countries where they truly operate.

The European Commission is already investigating the legality of tax rulings obtained by Amazon and Fiat in Luxembourg and by Apple and Starbucks in Ireland and the Netherlands. Luxembourg is expected to adopt changes that it says will make tax rulings more transparent. Under a proposed new law, corporate rulings would have to be approved by a commission rather than a single official.

The main body of the Huns had definitively entered Europe and conquered the Alans (ancient Iranian nomads) by the mid-370s. They also invaded the Pontic steppes and forced thousands of Goths to seek refuge in Roman cities in the Lower Danube.

As such, Attila and Bleda learned archery, sword fighting and lasso use, how to ride and care for horses, and military and diplomatic tactics. The brothers also spoke and possibly read Gothic and Latin.

Octar was the king of the western wing of the Huns who expanded the Empire into Germany and reportedly died of overeating. Ruga was the eastern overlord who waged war against the Eastern Roman Empire and allegedly died by a lightning strike while invading Thrace.

Early in his rule, Attila allied with the Western Roman general Aetius, who had previously been a hostage of the Huns. From 436 to 437, Attila and Aetius destroyed the Burgundian kingdom of modern-day Poland.

In 434, Ruga, before his death, threatened all-out war against the Roman Empire if it did not return fugitive Hunnic princes. Emperor Theodosius II decided to negotiate, and the eventual result was the 438 Peace of Margus (or Treaty of Margus, named after the city in modern-day Serbia where it was signed).

In 441, the Eastern Roman Empire sent an army to the newly established Vandal-Alan kingdom in North Africa. The Hunnic kings took this opportunity to invade the Balkans, forcing the Roman army, which had reached Sicily, to turn back to face the Huns.

Attila and Bleda reportedly did not see their actions as breaking the peace treaty, however. Rather, they were avenging wrongs: The bishop of Margus stole treasure from their royal tombs and the Roman Empire did not return some of the Hunnic fugitives, they claimed.

Attila forced Theodosius into a new treaty: The Huns would receive the missing fugitives and be paid 2,100 pounds of gold annually, as well as a lump sum of 6,000 pounds of gold (arrears for the Roman payments that stopped when the Huns broke the initial treaty).

Attila decimated Roman armies at the river Utus (though suffered great losses himself) and then at Chersonesus in the Gallipoli peninsula. He and his Huns went on to sack more than 70 cities in the Balkans and penetrated deep into Greece, but were stopped at Thermopylae, leading to yet another peace treaty negotiation with harsh penalties for the Romans.

Until that time, Attila had been on good terms with the Western Roman Empire, thanks in part to his relationship with General Aetius. That changed in 450, however, when princess Honoria, sister of the Western Roman Emperor Valentinian III, appealed to Attila for help.

The armies finally clashed at the famous Battle of Catalaunian Plains (also called the Battle of Chalons). In the end, the Visigoth king (Theodorid) died and most of the Western Roman army was destroyed, but the allied forces against the Huns held ground.
