Good day all,

I am in agreement with the suggestion of student to student, however we would need to incorporate an aspect of having one "adult" giving motivational workshop. The mentorship aspect was envisaged to have a career guidence aspect, and I think that could be overlooked if we just have agemates being penpals outside of 'seniors' . Perhaps that workshop could be done once way before exams for each 'class'. Eg maths and physics class, business class, history class. In relation to the subject choices made. I hope you get where I'm going with this.

Best regards,
Akholiwe

Hi All

In light of the concerns about the penpals i concur with
Sibongakonke. The idea of penpals i great but it is sensitive. Should we choose to take the option of connecting students with other students that too would need to be managed. But the latter idea seems more feasable after taking into account the mentioned concerns.

Hi all

Akho makes a good point. If I'm correct Akho, the idea is to have young professionals coming in to do talks with the kids before exams? I think that's a cool idea. However, we must plan properly. If, for example, we need mentors for the June exams we need to be able to warn whomever will be the "speaker". It would be nice to catch people who will be around the Eastern Cape at the time so that location is not an issue for anyone (as we all know that many work far from the school). But then again, we could always try and secure professionals within the Eastern Cape to do the talks. I get a sense that we would need one of us on the field to witness the first couple of talks.

Your idea is great asa, does WSU have a Rotaract group? I'm not all clued up on university Rotoract groups; do university rotaract groups go far out of the towns the university is in to work? I ask this because if WSU doesn't have a Rotaract group then we'd have to approach other universities, which do not necessarily have campuses close to Centane.

Regards
Sbonga

Hi Tume,

A few days back you enquired about computers, I called the teacher to find out. She said that they have two but one is not working and the functional one is used for admin by the clerk. She said they don't have space to put them at the moment and went on to explain that there a few classrooms or unused rooms because the school was built my the community a long time ago. However if they would get computers with warning before they are handed over, the principle could make plan into building a secure structure for that purpose.

Best regards,
Akholiwe
