Hi all

Just popping in to share something I've been pondering about and to ask what your thoughts are. For a long time I've been thinking that we ought to register as an NGO or an NPO. My thoughts were then further supported today when I called Heinemann Book Publishers to see whether or not they'd be able to help us out with some book donations. The lady I spoke to advised me on how to go about getting the group considered for such donations, and she emphasised that my communique would them would have to be presented in a letter with a group letterhead and NGO/NPO registration number. After explaining to her that we are a very new group and we haven't yet gotten that far, she made it clear that we need to be registered because they do not deal with groups or companies that are not registered.

I think that this is something we need to do, as being a registered NGO or NPO would work to our advantage. Most companies are usually more willing to work with registered NGOs or NPOs for tax reasons. I am most willing to work on getting us registered as an NGO or NPO if everyone is in agreement with the move. I already have an older family friend, who is running his own NGO/NPO (not sure which it is), who can advise me and help me in this regard. Please do let me know how you all think about this, whether you think we should be an NGO or NPO, etc. Also, I think this has slipped some minds, we need a group name; any ideas? We also need to make moves (when there's time) towards refining the constitution. We've gotta keep it moving :)

Regards
