Good morning Cherry,
Study guides are supplementary to the textbook, they are used most in
preparation for tests and exams. Usually have practise questions and
practical work. Most of us that were priveldged to go to schools that
provided them or we afforded to buy them can testify that they are a
great help in getting good practice for exams. Most children at the
school cannot afford to buy these and the textbooks at the school are
not enough for all the learners. So we thought study guides we a great
necessity and the school teacher advised that it was important to get
the children study material so that they can also have an opportunity
to study beyond just in the classroom, as some children have to share
textbooks thus dont have enough time with the book. The teacher said
the the shortage in study guides was so bad that she had to make
copies for the kids from her own study guide as in her class of almost
90 kids only 3 had them last year. The copying in itself was a
challenge as sometimes the machine had problems or there wasnt enough
papers etc.
Also they will be able to prepare for class beforehand, to get better
understanding in class. Textbooks should be provided by the government
and the reason why they are short is becuase of the mess that the
education department is in, in the EC. So in short it is to give the
kids a better chance at passing.
So collections that we are doing for study material from people is of
any textbooks and/or study guides in all subjects. Then with the funds
we raise we are going to buy study guides and depending on the
availability of the funds, see which subjects to focus one. First
prize would be obviously to get all the subjects.
Regards,
Akholiwe

Do they differ from textbooks? I didn't go to school in South Africa, so suspect my idea of what we're looking for differs. Just need a little bit of clarification so I can also be on the same page. thanks.
