Good morning ladies and gents,
Firstly a short status update, Sibongakonke has done an outstanding job in getting study material from her old school. she managed to get about 400 books which goes a long way into the study material collection part of the project, and the partnership with Equal education looks promising! Progress is being made in terms of NPO/PBO registration process and we are looking into further developing the Constitution. I am in communication with the Rhodes University Rotaract group and Asanda with NMMU for the penpals/mentorship programme. And the career day plans are slowly taking off.
As I promised I would do a tally of the collected study material and/funds mid-Feb.lf you have study material that you have collected please indicate how many are in your possession and where you are as I will be organising the logistics to get the books to a central place to deliver to the school within this month.
Fund raising has been a sore point for the group, with only three members having deposited minimum contributions thus far. the total in our account is R450 (as at mid-Feb, as per Sibonga's words). Although the group is not only there to fund raise the funds will go a long way in ensuring that our objective is met. Sibongakonke is going to visit the school next week ( I am also interested in going depending on availabilityy of funds) and we don't even have enough to subsidize the trip let alone transport all the study material.
The level of involvement or interest shown by group members has really been disheartening, this is based on three things. Firstly the slow responses to emails, secondly the unwillingness to offer services (ie become part of small focused task teams etc). And then thirdly to contribute the initial contributions, which most people have had a month to do now but failed to do so.
I think it is important really that we establish group membership on a certain level of involvement and not just by saying you are interested in the project. So not cut the long story short I am suggesting that group membership be limited to fulfilling a certain level of activity in the group. I will leave it for two weeks and then see where we are if things don't improve it wont help to have a large inactive group. Please go through your emails from before and see the suggestion re task teams and see where your interests might be, the Career day coming up will need a lot of combined effort and gives a chance for people to be involved.
I am fully aware that we are all busy and have alot on our plates with work, school etc. But it is important to know that we have active people not just names. If you are no longer available for the project please indicate and I can remove you from the list.If you are interested please say which aspect of the project you are mostly interested in and we can make this a success with some level of contribution from everyone in the group. We need at least little effort from all the group members.
Best regards,
Akholiwe
