Dear José, Silja and Achim,
In the Autumn of 2015 Martin Bull and Gianfranco Pasquino will be submitting a proposal to ECPR Press for a third volume in the series of academic profiles of the leading political scientists who have shaped the growth and development of the discipline, following the earlier publication of Masters of Political Science (Colchester: ECPR Press, 2009), edited by Donatella Campus and Gianfranco Pasquino, and Maestri of Political Science (Colchester: ECPR Press, 2011), edited by Donatella Campus, Gianfranco Pasquino and Martin Bull.
Martin and Gianfranco would appreciate some assistance in identifying the ‘Giants’ of political science who have not so far been covered in the first two volumes. These are:
From the first volume:
1. Robert Dahl
2. Anthony Downs
3. David Easton
4. S. E. Finer
5. Samuel P. Huntington
6. Juan J. Linz
7. Seymour Martin Lipsett
8. Giovanni Sartori
9. Sidney Verba
10. Aaron Wildavsky
11. Hans Morgenthau
From the second volume:
1. Gabriel A. Almond
2. Raymond Aron
3. Philip Converse
4. Maurice Duverger
5. Stanley Hoffmann
6. Paul Lazarsfeld
7. Arend Lijphart
8. Elinor Ostrom
9. William H. Riker
10. Stein Rokkan
11. Susan Strange
Gianfranco and Martin are therefore asking you, as Convenors of one of the ECPR’s Standing Groups (which represent all areas of the discipline in breadth and depth) if you would be kind enough to consult within your Standing Group and provide them with up to (but not more than) three names from (and/or beyond) the sub-disciplinary area represented by your Standing Group who you think would merit inclusion in a third volume on the giants of the political science discipline.
If you are willing to participate in this exercise, please send your three proposed names by email to standin...@ecpr.eu.
The deadline for sending in your names is 10 September 2015, which hopefully should give you time to consult in your Standing Group
Many thanks in advance for your valuable input,
Rebecca
