Hello Edible Campus Program Members!
We hope you’re having an amazing Week 7 & a restful break from Session A. In this newsletter, we will have the upcoming week’s Cultivating Community Days. We will also be hosting 2 workshops in the coming weeks: a garden tour and a hanging-plant workshop, where participants will be able to keep their own FREE planter. Below the workshops, we are hiring for our new Climate Scholars Community Service fellowship; more information is in that tab.

Upcoming Cultivating Community Days
Cultivating Community is a garden volunteer event hosted by the Edible Campus Program that occurs every Sunday from 12 PM- 2 PM at gardens and farms in the IV and UCSB community. No garden experience needed to volunteer with us! :D

Solo and Small Group Volunteering

Are you interested in volunteering with the garden but prefer coming out on your own around your schedule? We are accepting volunteers every day of the week! Tasks would be low-key duties like watering or some light weeding. You'll come out when one of our garden staff is around to ask questions. Macramé Planter Workshop

Hanging around this summer? Join us for our macramé hanging garden workshop to learn more about indoor gardening and create your own DIY hanging planter to elevate your mood (and your plants)! This is a great opportunity to meet others interested in crafting, growing your own food, and community involvement at one of our local public gardens.
St. Mike's Garden Tour for Pescadero Lofts
Pescadero Lofts residents and community members- please join us for a tour of St Michael’s community garden. This tour is perfect for current gardeners, those interested in participating in communal plots, or just to simply learn more about the space- everyone is welcome!

The Climate Scholars Community Service Fellowship is a program designed for UCSB students who are passionate about volunteering and are looking for opportunities to serve more, build their public service skill set, and expand their relationships in the climate action and environmental field. Students will provide service to people of all ages and will grow a better understanding of our local community. Service placements will all be related to climate action and environmental education with local environmental non-profits. Current community host partners include Heal the Ocean, SB MOVE, Santa Barbara Agriculture and Farm Education Foundation/Sweet Wheel Farm, Planet Protectors, SB Audubon, Coastal Ranches Conservancy, Los Padres Forest Association, and Nature Track. We anticipate most students in this program to have one primary placement where they will do the majority of their hours and 1-2 secondary placements to diversify their service experience.
Participating students will commit to putting in 360 volunteer hours of hands-on work in the public service climate action field (about 12-15 hrs a week) during the 2026-2027 academic year (September 28th, 2027 - June 6th, 2027) and will also receive 90 hrs of training in advanced skills related to civic engagement and public service.
Fellows will receive an education award of $3,000 at the end of the service year when they complete all 450 hours.
