Hello Edible Campus Program Members!
We hope you’re having a beautiful summer and a calm week here in Isla Vista. Below are our new Cultivating Community Volunteer Events, similar to our Saturday Morning Live’s (SML) from last quarter, but on Sunday from 12-2 pm. Come join us for a calm day of volunteering with some laid-back gardening. Here is a quick rundown of what opportunities are available:

Cultivating Community is a garden volunteer event hosted by Edible Campus Program that occurs every Sunday from 12pm - 2PM at gardens and farms in the IV and UCSB community. No garden experience needed to volunteer with us! :D

Are you interested in volunteering with the garden but prefer coming out on your own around your schedule? We are accepting volunteers every day of the week! Tasks would be low key duties like watering or some light weeding. You'll come out when one of our garden staff are around to ask questions. Introduction to Small-Scale Composting
Monday, July 27, 2026 | 10:00–11:00 AM | Storke Family Student Housing
Learn how worms break down food scraps into nutrient-rich compost, what materials can and cannot be composted, and how to compost at home. Participants will go home with a working three-bucket worm bin system and worms.

The Climate Scholars Community Service Fellowship is a program designed for UCSB students who have been regularly volunteering in the community before the start of this program and are looking for opportunities to serve more, build their public service skill set, and expand their relationships in the climate action and environmental field. Students will provide service to people of all ages and will grow a better understanding of our local community. Service placements will all be related to climate action and environmental education with local environmental non-profits. Current community host partners include Heal the Ocean, Santa Barbara Green Business Program, SB MOVE, Santa Barbara Agriculture and Farm Education Foundation/Sweet Wheel Farm, Planet Protectors, SB Audubon, and Nature Track. We anticipate most students in this program to have one primary placement where they will do the majority of their hours and 1-2 secondary placements to diversify their service experience.
Fellows will receive an education award of $3,000 at the end of the service year when they complete all 450 hours. There is no stipend or payment before this education award at the end of the service year. For locations not accessible by bus, transportation reimbursements may be available during the year. This is primarily a volunteer position and not a paid employment opportunity. We are dedicated to the professional development of the fellows in this program and have set aside funding to support training and conferences linked to the work the students are doing as a part of this fellowship.
