Dear Edible Campus Program Community,

It is officially SUMMER ☀️ 

We hope you're taking a much needed break from work and classes, spending time outside, and getting excited for ECP summer programming. Even if you're not going to be in Isla Vista for the summer, there's still ways to stay involved with us!

Whether you are looking to join our team as a paid intern, sign up for garden workshops, or learn about volunteering opportunities, this newsletter has everything you need.

Paid Internship Opportunity ($16.75/hr)

💼 Coastal Friendly Gardening Practices Education & Outreach Intern

Help protect local wildlife while promoting sustainable gardening practices at Family Student Housing gardens!

In this role, you’ll:
🦉 Replace harmful bird netting with eco-friendly alternatives like metal cages and owl boxes
🌊 Lead workshops and wildlife appreciation walks highlighting coastal ecosystem-safe gardening
🧑‍🌾 Educate fellow gardeners on reducing microplastics, water pollution, and pesticide use
📊 Track impact with microplastic audits and educational materials

No prior expertise needed—just a passion for sustainability, wildlife, and hands-on work! 

Ideal candidates can start in July or August 2025 and will be UCSB students through June 2026.

How to Make Your Own DIY Deodorant 

& Practice Self Care


Are you interested in finding a different alternative to your current deodorant? 


Join us for a relaxing time in nature as you learn how to make your own deodorant. Learn some of the benefits of an at-home deodorant and get the opportunity to take it home.

If you're sticking around IV anytime between now and 7/7/25, we are looking for people who can do some watering around the community gardens while we are short staffed. 

Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or just want to soak up some sun and do something meaningful, we’d love to have you. Every pair of hands makes a difference. If you or your friends are willing to help out, fill out our June Volunteering Form to get involved, earn volunteer hours, and enjoy the sunshine!

Staying around IV this summer? 

Want to enjoy the wonders of gardening? 


Join the Garden Buddy Network! We will connect you with one of the gardens in Isla Vista or on campus you can be their garden buddy! This is a low intensity volunteer program where you will help with watering and weeding. Usually garden buddies volunteer for 1-2 hours at a time when they are free. There are so many benefits to gardening, mentally, physically, and health wise, so don’t miss out on this opportunity to get your hands dirty and help a buddy out!

Saturday Morning Live Volunteering

☀️ Saturday Morning Live Will Be Back on June 28th

Your favorite way to volunteer is BACK for summer! 

We plan to offer SML every Saturday June 28 - September 6.

Saturday Morning Live (SML) is our weekly garden volunteer series where students and community members of all experience levels can learn new skills and explore a different garden in Isla Vista each week. You can meet our Volunteer Coordinator at 10:30 AM at the IV Food Co-op to walk over together, or head directly to the garden.
