Greetings, all, you have received a note similar to the below already, but now that our 2021-22 academic year is fast approaching I'd like to remind you of the new, updated EcoTypes website, survey, and online resources, all accessed via ecotypes.us; here is an instructor FAQ.

EcoTypes and its online survey/resources proved particularly valuable starting 2020 due to COVID in-person restrictions, and like you, I'm concerned that we have not yet turned a corner on COVID, but I can offer you this online resource for the coming school year if helpful for your classes.

Do be in touch if questions!

Regards,

Jim P.

Dear AESS colleagues, I'm pleased to announce that our EcoTypes initiative, which to date has involved over 80 institutions of higher education and over 5500 survey completions, has now been significantly updated in preparation for the 2021-22 academic year. Just go to:

for the new website, a briefer, fully anonymous survey, and plenty of improvements designed for you and your students to explore their environmental ideas.

Here are some starter resources on the site:
  • If you are unfamiliar with EcoTypes, or desire an overview for your students, see the EcoTypes FAQ page. (There will soon be a five minute introductory video on the home page as well.)
  • If you would like basic information for instructors, see the Instructor FAQ page. For those of you who are familiar with EcoTypes, the bottom question on that page ("What’s new starting summer 2021?") may be especially helpful.
  • As noted on the Instructor FAQ and here, I am transferring/updating/expanding detailed content from the previous EcoTypes site into a forthcoming book; in the meantime, I can offer you an instructor packet of resources from the previous site. Just send a request and I'll provide you one.
  • Though some detailed content is being moved to a book, the new site is designed to offer more self-guided exploration by students, including a replete Survey Report FAQ page to help them understand the details behind their survey report, and a set of Going Deeper boxes featured throughout the site they can use as prompts for reflection and writing.
Important!: as mentioned on that Instructor FAQ page, there is a new way for you to receive your institutional data. Given the fully anonymous nature of the revised EcoTypes survey, you must be in touch with me in advance to agree on an institutional code your students will enter. Just fill out the request form with a requested code, and we'll confirm together prior to your students completing the survey.

Thank you for your continued support, and looking forward to your use of, and feedback on, the new EcoTypes site/survey as we learn together how best to use it in our classrooms.

Regards,

Jim P.
