Dear EcoTypes collaborators, hello! I will share some updates as we plan for 2024, and the first concerns an important EcoTypes phrase/possibility, "many care, just differently." If your students have encountered this phrase on the EcoTypes site, they may find it noble, but may not fully appreciate it without actual experiences across difference.

What I invite you to do is share on our website a case illustrating "many care, just differently," for the benefit of us all. This case can take multiple forms, but typically you would interact with a nearby community, comparing EcoTypes survey results and discussing points of similarity/difference. [Since results are anonymous, we'd need to assign your companion community a group code...I can support you in this way.]

My students did several comparisons this fall, and I just documented one here: the case compares EcoTypes results from Lewis & Clark students and members of a local Black congregation. Our students interacted with them on several occasions during the semester, deepening their understanding and appreciation of the numerical EcoTypes results. Based on student feedback, this was among the top experiences they had in our intro environmental studies course, so I strongly recommend it.

If you are interested, please be in touch. And, of course, feel free to use our one starter case to get your students thinking about "many care, just differently" in the context of actual communities of people outside of our courses.

Regards,

Jim P.
