Dear all, hello and (for those of you in the N Hemisphere) hoping you are having a good summer. This email has some of the important updates to EcoTypes for the 2025-26 academic year, so please read carefully and be in touch if questions.

I typically try to roll out EcoTypes updates by Aug every year, so that those of you who start teaching in Aug can use the newest features. I now have a draft ready for you to test, including the following, all currently tucked away on the menu via "Survey > 2025-26 Survey Resources" so you can test and preview.

Here are the most important items:
  • A new scheme of twelve EcoTypes. In recent years we featured different sets of four EcoTypes, but following feedback I decided to offer an EcoType phrase for each two-dimensional sector combination of Place, Knowledge, and Action. The new EcoTypes page also has new personae for each, including an associated SDG.
  • This new 12-ET scheme demanded a good deal of backend programming for the survey and survey report (sample report att'd with random data...not formatted as nicely as the online version). I think I have most bugs worked out, but **you can help** by trying out the survey and viewing your report, thank you! Yes, there is also an updated 2025-26 survey report retrieval form and FAQ ready to go...have a look please.
  • Separately, colleagues in France requested that I produce a brief welcome video in order to introduce the intent behind EcoTypes, and assure participants that their survey data will be managed responsibly. You can now see this informal video on the home page (or directly on Vimeo here).
I will clean up the website, move 2025-26 content to a more prominent position, etc. soon...but have a few other scholarly tasks to attend to this summer. **I would like to hear from you**, then, on your priorities so that I can update additional resources for you accordingly. Here is a list of things to consider, then let me know if interested along with your deadlines:
  • Survey group code, so that you can receive anonymized data for your course. (This necessitates that I prepare a nice export form similar to previous years.)
  • Survey manual entry PDF, so your students can score themselves. (It will be a fillable PDF you can either do online or print, as in previous years.)
  • Survey followup form. I have decided to simplify the form to focus primarily on giving the participant an opportunity to reflect on their survey results. I am writing a book at present on navigating difference, the four "counting" logics, etc., and continue to find this material of crucial importance...but yes, a bit challenging for students ;-), so will mostly exclude from followup form.
  • SDG Mosaic card game. Will also be similar to previous years, but I need to create new cards for our new personae!...will be rather easy.
I may have forgotten some key resources above, so let me know if there are others you need, and remember to provide a deadline please so I can prioritize.

Thank you, all, and be in touch,

Jim
