As most people on this list will know, Martin made exceptional contributions to the field of ecotherapy. His passion for taking therapy outdoors has been pioneering work, and so many people have learned so much from his original thinking. His book Nature and Therapy is such a clear and helpful overview of the field. #
Very sad to see you go Martin.

The news of Martin’s illness and death brings so many thoughts and feelings, a reminder of just how devastating chronic depression is – and that taking care of ourselves, and each other, is as necessary as the care we show to those we serve. Warm wishes go out to all those who knew him – to those he loved and worked with, those he supported, helped, inspired and connected with. He gave much in his short life, to so many of us. Like others, I too shall miss him - his presence and energy, his enthusiasm and humour.
With love to his family and friends at this difficult time,
Vanessa

Thanks for this question Linda.
Someone has started a piece on the Ecopsychology ning forum which everyone is welcome to contribute to, as a way of celebrating his life and sharing our memories of him and his work.

Such shocking and sad news, Mary-Jayne! He was so young, and his young family must be devastated.
As Mary-Jayne says, Martin has indeed made such exceptional contributions to the field of ecotherapy and has given us great gifts, including his excellent books Nature and Therapy and Ecotherapy: Theory, Research and Practice. How can we who live far from Sussex best honor and celebrate his life's work?

Thank you for sharing this sad news, Mary-Jane.
I am so sorry to learn of Martin’s passing. Our community of ecotherapists (on both sides of the pond) has lost a bright light and an important voice. My thoughts are with his family and friends.
My best,
Patricia
