Dear Narayanan,

The School of Public Policy is hosting the 11th annual conference of the Network of Early Career Researchers in Sustainability Transitions (NEST) from March 28 to 29, 2026. NEST is an initiative of the Sustainability Transitions Research Network (STRN) that provides a global networking platform for early-career researchers and doctoral candidates specializing in sustainability transitions. It will be the first time in the history of NEST that its annual conference is being exclusively held in the Global South.

The theme of this year's conference is 'Interlinked Transitions: From Global Visions to Local Realities'. This year's theme acknowledges that transitions are shaped not only by global agendas and international norms, but also by specific local histories, cultural contexts, politics, varying ecologies, and socio-economic structures. Transitions unfolding across sectors, such as mobility, energy, and agriculture, require coordination among multiple actors at various scales (local, regional, and national) and across different regions to achieve the shared goals of sustainability while addressing the impacts of climate change. This conference aims to demonstrate how sustainability and context must be more deeply considered to better understand their roles in facilitating or limiting opportunities for sustainability transitions.

The call for abstracts, along with more guidance on how to apply, can be found on the NEST website (https://sites.google.com/view/nest2026/home?authuser=0). The conference is inviting contributions from early-career researchers (doctoral candidates and scholars within three years of completing their PhD) along six different conference tracks. The deadline for applying is 10 December 2025. A limited number of scholarships are also available to support up to 30 international and domestic participants from the global south with travel and accommodation assistance.

Important Dates:
Deadline: 10 December 2025
Conference Dates: 28-29 March, 2026
Link for submission: https://sites.google.com/view/nest2026/call-for-abstracts?authuser=0

Please circulate to all early career researchers who may be interested

Best,

Suma Athreye.
