Economics Department General Secretary 2026-27: Nominations Open

Greetings!

This email is regarding the elections for the position of General Secretary, Department of Economics at IIT Bombay. Below are the details regarding eligibility criteria, the election timeline, and compulsory groundwork requirements.

Eligibility Criteria:

Candidates must meet the following criteria to contest the elections:

UG Student: Must have completed at least five semesters.
PhD Student: Must have completed at least three semesters.
Backlog Criteria: 

1. Candidates with no active backlogs are eligible to contest.
2. Candidates with up to two active backlogs may contest if their CPI is greater than 7 as of March 1, 2026.
3. The candidate must be a registered student of IIT Bombay as of March 1, 2026.
4. The candidate must have no history of disciplinary action.

Election Timeline:

The tentative schedule for the elections is as follows:

Event Date & Time: 

Filing of Nominations: March 2 – March 5, 2026
Withdrawal of Nominations: By 23:59 hrs, March 6, 2026
Manifesto Submission: By 23:59 hrs, March 23, 2026
Black Box: March 24-25, 2026
Campaigning Starts: 14:00 hrs, March 26, 2026
Soap Box: March 27, 2026
Campaigning Ends: By 23:59 hrs, March 28, 2026
Silent Day: March 29, 2026
Voting Day: March 30, 2026
Note: The above timeline is tentative and subject to change.

• PhD Representative, Department of Economics (2025-26)
• General Secretary, Academic Affairs (PG) (2025-26)
• General Secretary, Academic Affairs (UG) (2025-26 & 2026-27)
• D-AMP Coordinator, Economics (2025-26 & 2026-27)
• Institute Secretaries, Academic Affairs (EnPower, SSS, and Career Cell) (2025-26)
• At least 7 Department General Secretaries (excluding Economics) (2025-26)
• At least 3 D-AMP Coordinators (excluding Economics) (2025-26)
• Chief Secretary, Economics Council (2025-26)
• All Associate Secretaries, Economics Council (2025-26)
• Department Research Coordinator, Economics (2025-26)
• Department Placement Coordinator, Economics (2025-26)
• Class Representatives (2022, 2023, 2024, 2025 batches)

Verification & Submission: All groundwork must be verified either via email or physical signatures. Proof of verification must be submitted along with the Manifesto.
