Following this thread, including some insightful critique from Hart, I propose that an ERA policy statement on food would be timely. (Apologies if it has already been done).
The EcoRestoration Alliance website states:
Restoration of biodiverse ecosystems represents the greatest opportunity to regulate climate; reduce flooding, drought, and wildfires; improve water and air quality; preserve the beauty of nature; and advance the health of humans and endangered species.
Could we edit it to Restoration of biodiverse wild and agricultural ecosystems… to make regeneration of food explicitly a core part of this work? Conventional industrial food production is a massive disruptor of climate and biodiversity, but conversely, it can heal the climate and foster biodiversity.
As a potent driver of ecosystem regeneration, it also serves to provide people with the necessities of a good life.
Any policy statement has to address the issue of meat in a moderate and inclusive way, and I am sure we can do so.
Could someone please remind me of how we should start a workstream such as a policy statement?
regards,
Peter
