A Good News Newsletter for Cooling the Planet. Forest Power: Cooling the Planet NaturallyRob de Laet and Peter Bunyard speak with Herb Simmons about cooling the earth
We need to get the word out about how preserving and growing our forests will cool the planet. As a species, we need to put major pressure on Brazil and other South American countries to stop cutting down the Amazon rainforests, which as you have heard, are the lungs of the planet. With the COP30 conference coming up in Belem, Brazil, in November, this is a good chance for people to understand the importance of the hydrological input from forests, and to make our voices heard to protect them. In my last post, I refreshed us on photosynthesis and the importance of small and large water cycles on climate. Now we need to understand the significance of the Biotic Pump theory to understand how water vapor gets from the trees, into the atmosphere, and creates clouds, rain, and atmospheric rivers. Rob and Peter have partnered on a book, “Cooling Climate Chaos” in which they claim that if we conserved our forests and strengthened the biotic pump, we could turn the climate disruption around in 20 years. Watch this video, to understand the importance of the Amazon rainforest to the biotic pump, and to the temperature of the earth. I’ll try to post Rob and Peter’s book in a subsequent article. Thanks!
