| | | An Earth Day Call to Action from ERA Member - Rob de Laet | | Read this article on LinkedIn to join the conversation | Cooling the Climate: How to Revive the Biosphere and Cool the Earth Within 20 Years, coauthored by Peter Bunyard and Rob de Laet , delivers both an urgent warning and a hopeful solution: we are dangerously close to global societal collapse due to the degradation of Earth's ecosystems. These ecosystems, particularly forests and water cycles, regulate temperature, rainfall, and climate stability, yet they are being destroyed at an unprecedented rate. However, if we act now, massive regeneration can restore the planet’s natural climate regulation system within two decades. For too long, climate action has focused almost exclusively on reducing carbon emissions. While essential, it is not enough. What has been missing from the conversation is the role of water cycles, plant life, and ecosystems in cooling the planet. By leveraging nature’s own mechanisms, protecting biodiversity, reforesting degraded land, restoring watersheds, and transitioning to regenerative agriculture, we can actively cool the Earth. Research inspired by James Lovelock’s Gaia Theory shows that restoring an area the size of Argentina in the tropics can lower global temperatures by 1°C. Cooling the Climate Project: A Bold Strategy for Planetary Restoration Building on this science, we have launched the Cooling the Climate project. At its core is ARARA, a Digital Financial Platform for Global Regeneration, designed to empower and pay around 1.5 million families to restore and protect the Amazon rainforest. ARARA leverages blockchain technology, satellite imagery, and smart contracts to provide transparent, finance and real-time payments for ecosystem services such as seed collection, reforestation, agroforestry, and fire prevention. ... | | | | | | This email was intended for Jon Schull (Co-Founder e-NABLE.org, EcoRestorationAlliance.org) | Learn why we included this. | You are receiving LinkedIn notification emails.
