News from our companion Diocese of Myitkyina
|
|
Diocese of Utah gift finishes house for Bishop of Myitkyina. Bishop David Than Lwin, of our companion Diocese of Myitkyina, wrote us with the great news that he now has a new house after receiving our diocesan gift (through the Bishop's Discretionary Fund) to finish the construction. Clergy members, including bishops, receive extremely small salaries and virtually no retirement in the impoverished country. Through several diocesan conventions, the Diocese of Utah has pledged to share our blessed resources with the wider church in our companion dioceses of Myanmar and Mexico. Despite inexpensive construction costs, adequate housing is difficult in Myanmar.
Bishop David Than Lwin also wrote to personally thank all for the prayers for his diocese during the recent earthquake in Myanmar. Our companion diocese is located north of the center of the quake. As we reported in the last Living Boldly, Myitkyina was spared from major damage.

Communications Update
Your Communications Director just met with Episcopal communicators from other dioceses to share ideas and learn new ways to communicate to all of us in this electronic age. Bishop Hayashi has emphasized the need to constantly improve how we connect with each other as a diocese and as a people doing the Lord's work.
Please contact me with any communications question or issue. Also, I am always available to visit our congregations and ministries to assist needs, help develop websites, and help as all of us continue to turn more and more to electronic based communications. My primary responsibility is to serve as a resource for your congregation and ministry. Call the diocese or email:

| Episcopal night at the Bees |

Our time to cheer at the ball park in Salt Lake City
As the Bible says, "Seek out a man who is a skillful player..." -- Samuel I 16:16.
Thus you are most encouraged to follow your Biblical teachings and cheer with other Episcopal fans of baseball... especially when you see the Bees' new star relief pitcher "and he gave them a deliverer--Ehud, a left-handed man" --Judges 3:15
Here are the facts: Friday, June 10th @ 7:05 PM vs the Fresno Grizzlies Tickets: Box seats @ $11 per person ($10 if we get more than 100 people) "Bees Bucks" - purchased in $1 or $5 increments - 10% discount at concession stands.
Please organize your groups by congregations or ministries and send one collective order for each group to The Rev. Rick Whittaker, St. Barnabas-Tooele. Send him the paid ticket and Bees Bucks orders by Friday, May 27th.
Again, orders should come from each parish/institution. The National Anthem that night will be sung by Vicki Firestack and Janis Pierce's Sweet Adelines group. Vicki is the receptionist who greets you at the Episcopal Church Center of Utah and Janis is the manager of the Diocese's Open Book Store.
