A special end of the year greetings to one and all! Blessings on your year-end reminiscing and looking forward to 2012. Be safe as you celebrate New Year's -- we'll see some of you at church tomorrow!
This Sunday, Jan 1, is the day the Church commemorates the Holy Name. It is one of only three commemorations which the Prayer Book "allows" to take the place of a usual Sunday. (Along with the Feast of the Presentation and the Transfiguration) That means, instead of celebrating the Second Sunday of Christmas, since Jan 1 IS a Sunday, we're celebrating the holy Name.
Since Jan 1 is also a holiday, there will be no Sunday School this Sunday. And we're moving our First Sunday to January 8. We'll learn more about our eucharistic prayers and "manual acts" on that day.
Please take the time to walk around to the north of the sanctuary outside. The columbarium project is complete and it's beautiful. Special thanks to Chuck Stephenson and Paul Stephenson for taking this project on and seeing it completion. The committee -- including Wim Ray, Linda Besselievre -- did a beautiful job of envisioning a very special addition to our church property and worshipping community. We've yet to decide on a date to have the Bishop bless it.
You may not know, but The Great Wind of 2011 damaged areas of the roof which were difficult to see from the ground. Roof repair has been underway this week. Thanks to Richard Chesarek for getting this taken care of so quickly.
Wednesday, January 4 at 7 pm we will gather once again for a Community Matters! forum. This forum will welcome members of the LGBT community and their families to discuss the issues of being gay or having a gay family member in Davis County. Members of PFLAG from Ogden and Salt Lake will be with us as well as members of Integrity -- the Episcopal Church ministry to LGBT people.
Time for New Beginnings. . . . . . . . . . . Taylor Addison, Blue Mountain Arts, 1989
"This is a time for reflection as well as celebration.
As you look back on the past year and all that has taken place in your
life,
Remember each experience for the good that has come of it
and for the
knowledge you have gained.
Remember the efforts you have made and the goals you have reached.
Remember the love you have shared and the happiness you have brought.
Remember the laughter, the joy, the hard work, and the tears.
And as you reflect on the past year, also be thinking of the new one to
come.
Because most importantly, this is a time of new beginnings
and the
celebration of life."
