Friends -- You have been through a lot these past few days. I've spoken to many of you and am saddened to hear of the damage to your homes, the loss of power, and the loss of beautiful trees. I am grateful that I have not heard of injuries, but have instead heard stories of people helping people and the Davis County communities coming together.
If I haven't spoken to you, please know you have been on my heart and in my prayers.
I was asked months ago to offer the invocation at the Centerville City Council meeting on Tuesday. After the devastating storm, this prayer will be one of great thanks that no lives were lost and that city authorities have responded so quickly to the needs of the community. I will also pray for strength for the days ahead, as much repair work and insurance negotiations will be necessary.
I've received two messages from the Police Dept/Emergency Management Dept. They asked that I relay them to you:
Reverend Briggs,
I was hoping you could read the below message to your congregation tomorrow, this message only applies to Centerville Residents.
Please read the following:
Dear Citizens and Community Leaders,
Last Thursday December 1st 2011 Centerville City and experienced a severe wind storm causing extensive damage city wide. City and community resources rapidly came together in a coordinated effort to respond, mitigate, and now recover from this historic event. The City Emergency Operation Center was operational by 7:00 am and by 9:00 am Mayor Russell had declared an emergency disaster situation. On behalf of the City Emergency Management team I would like to thank all of those who have joined together helping in the response and ongoing recovery effort, it is a testament to the resilience and quality of people who live here. The City will continue to do all it reasonably can to assist residents who have been impacted and ask that everyone abide by the following guidelines:
· Safety is our number one concern; please make every reasonable effort to ensure that all appropriate safety equipment is used and those who use power equipment are competent.
· Only large tree logs or trunks that cannot be loaded onto a pickup truck or utility trailer should be left on the curb, please keep the sidewalk and roadway clear if possible.
· Only Green debris should be taken to one of the designated collection points.
· Debris taken to a designated LDS Stake Center parking lot collection point should be cut into sections no longer than 4 feet and weigh less than 75 pounds.
· Debris taken to a designated city park collection point can be larger and do not have a size or weight restriction.
· The Street Department has asked that all unattached street signs be taken to the Public Works Building or reported to the city for pick up.
· City employees and equipment will not be able to go onto private property for liability reasons.
· Home owners should report property damage to their own insurance agent.
Collection Point locations and additional information can be found on our website.
Thank you,
Lieutenant Paul Child
