My first use of Econsensus

I tried out Econsensus at http://www.econsensus.org/ using the
credentials, test test , and noticed when I clicked on Reply I had
the following error:

Please correct the error below
This field is required
xxxx yyy zzz wwwww                      my reply, loged in as test test
Post

Clicking Post did nothing and so I used the browser back-arrow to
get out of this problem.

I had already noticed that, Your Details , in the top-left had blank for
E-mail address. So after creating an alias email address for myself
in my email account (orange), knowing I could delete it when
I'm done, I entered my alias email address in the blank space.

Then I could use Reply to the Feedback items with no errors.

Then I deleted my alias email address from my orange email account.

Then I clicked on Your Details , in the top-left, made the
E-mail address blank and clicked on Update.

Then I logout from test test and loged back in as test test, and
looked at the Your Details and observed that the Email Address was
not blank (my alias email address).

It is true, but not too surpising, that Reply now does not give
any errors. But I'm unhappy that I cannot put the Econsensus (test test)
back in the same state as I started. Sorry.

I've used Econsensus (aptivatedemo aptivatedemo) and had the same
error with Reply. But I did not change the email address in Your Details;
I left it as a blank space as it was.

I then created a new member account for myself in Econsensus and
as I entered my own email I did not have any errors with Reply.

I'm a tentative trainee volunteer and my contact with Aptivate is Martin
Martin Burchell.

Thanks for reporting this Glyn and diagnosing the problem. I've added this bug to our Kanban. I don't know if it is an error for an account to exist without an email address. I suspect it is. So maybe we should just ensure that there are always email addresses set up for the test and demo accounts.

That's OK. I've set the email to a mailinator address so that it is no longer associated with your account. We should probably reset that account periodically anyway.

OK. I've also set this account with a mailinator address. Feel free to change either of them back if you want to test them further.

Hi Glyn,

Thanks for spotting this!

I think we'll delete the test/test account; people can easily create their own account if they want to play with Econsensus. Seems like a good idea to remove the chance for people to change the email address and then start spamming it. The idea was just to in effect let people see a demo system, given that we haven't managed to allocate time to e.g. make a video of it.

With regard to the aptivatedemo account, I guess the same applies, however this isn't given out to the public, only people interested in volunteering with us, so maybe it's ok.

The idea was that people could use aptivatedemo to see a full working system, or for people to demonstrate Econsensus to other groups. I think we didn't consider the use case of someone starting to create their own organisations using that account - we assumed people would use their own accounts for that.

That said, given that we trust the people using it, we can probably leave it as-is with the mailinator email address.

thanks!
Tom.
