When I downloaded the Ubuntu iso-image file to my Asus A54C laptop
(Windows 7 Home Edition, Google Chrome) the download terminated
before all the file had downloaded. The size of the iso file was about
655MB rather than 981MB. I tried a number of changes including
using an ethernet line rather than wireless, but the problem
persisted. Tech. support at EE/orange, my Internet provider
(BrightBox router), said that as I had unlimited option on
my account with them I should have no problem with downloading
a 1GB file. When I tried burning this suspect iso file onto a
DVD disc I had the error message: The selected image file isn't valid.
I overcame this iso-file download problem by using the Internet
facility at the Cambridge Central Library. I transferred the good
iso-file from the library computer to my laptop using a USB stick
and then burned it to a DVD disc with no errors. Then the
installation from the burned disc onto my laptop alongside MS
Windows 7 worked with no problems.
Any comments about why I could not download a complete 1GB file
with my facility but could with the library facility would interest me.
I'm now using Terminal to get familiar with the Lynx commands.
