perhaps some of you know about REA accounting models ?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Resources,_events,_agents_%28accounting_model%29

a small example has been developed under this code

https://github.com/almirpehratovic/REA

The idea I discussed with Seth at some point being to import REA as an ontology ( as RDF Schema ? ),
and then use it under Netention ( and combine it usage with a variety of other importable RDF Schema Ontologies, to contextualize entities  )

Bob H also specifically co-defined an OVN vocabulary , which could be imported into Netention ,
as to make graphs related to the Open Value Network , its agreements and transactions

ps : I've been in touch with Bob H. Bob and Seth have been talking with each other.

Also see :

Bob's #ovni / Open Value Networks with Sensorica as Mikorizal

Ok.  Thats's it for today's "soup" of various pieces of a puzzle.
I hope we can generate and assemble into a synthesis somehow :)

Hello to everybody.

Recently we acquired the book Model-Driven Design Using Business Patterns by Pavel Hruby and tried to create sample application for Joe's Pizzeria in Java Spring technology. Application deals with sale exchange process and in addition shows the implementation of Identification Pattern in Spring aspect-oriented environment. Source code and instructions for trying the app, for anyone that is interested, can be found on url:

https://github.com/almirpehratovic/REA

Any comment or feedback is very welcomed :)

Thank you, I am always glad to see another REA open source example.

We need more!

Suggestion, if you have resources to do it, is to deploy a demo on the Web. If not, no worries. I can download and try it, but that takes more time. If you had a demo, I would look at it today.

Question: who is "we"?

Thanks again,
Bob Haugen

Thank you Bob.

The main focus of this example is proper understanding of REA and Pavel's business patterns (including aspect-oriented patterns). This should be visible in source code or design of the app, but not in UI of the app.

I will try to post few pictures of UI tomorrow.

We are small IT company with the name 'Ocean', from Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina. We are developing complete business software solutions and we are seriously considering REA as main business model in future versions of our apps (instead of classic accounting which we are using currently).

I've been developing software based on REA since the late 1990's, open source since 2009. I'll be happy to answer questions.

Pavel and Christian sometimes respond to questions on this list, too, along with other people who have developed running REA code. We all do things a little differently, but can almost always have friendly discussions.

For reviewing an implementation, we're all busy, so the more you can publish of things like diagrams, screenshots and documentation, and the less we need to dig into code, the better.

But I am happy to learn of your existence, and welcome to one outpost of the REA community.

Thank you Bob.

As I said before, example was made for the purpose of proper understanding of REA and business patterns and it should prove useful for anyone who is starting to learn this model and do not know where to start, in the terms of practical application.

UI is therefore irrelevant, but here are few pictures:

I would be very thankful if you could point to some open source projects that are using REA as their base.

I did, in the signature of my first response in this thread, but maybe
it was not clear what I was doing. Here again, more explicitly, are
three projects that I am involved in, that are open source and based
on REA (but not on Pavel's excellent book: we started designing our
REA models before that came out):
https://github.com/valnet/valuenetwork
http://www.locecon.org/
https://github.com/openvocab/ovn

I think others exist, but do not know what or where they are. Which is
why I am glad to see yours.

Almir,

I am not sure if this helps. Tod Sedbrook and I published an article on a semantic web implementation of REA at the policy level. Tod did the semantic web portion and I did the REA part.  I will send it to your and anyone else who is interested. It appeared in Journal of Information Systems in 2010, which was a special edition for REA articles. I also have some basic REA Access databases that I can send you. I developed for my textbook, “Building Accounting Systems Using Access.” The databases are for education purposes. They are not intended for actual implementation.

Me too! We're starting a Linked Open Data REA project here:

We need all the help we can get.

I saw that. I'll dig deeper and see how I might be able to contribute.
