Why? Protectionism is inefficient and destructive. Economies would be
better off if people bought the goods & services that were best for
their needs, rather than goods & services that just happened to have
the right flag glued on.
Now, how do you propose to sell things "more economical for americans"
if they can only be made in an arbitrary subset of factories that have
much higher costs than those used by competing retailers?

outsourcing American jobs, which america does considerably, lowers our
economy and ups our competitions. a double edged blade. the American
dollar is falling more and more every day while japan, china, and the
likes increase. well, why could that be? maybe because our economy
sucks because we give them so many of our jobs. i would pay up to 30%
higher for goods made in America in a heartbeat. not just because it
would help out our economy but also the fact of all the mistreatment
of workers and regulations overseas. protectionism! hell! far, far
from it at this point. poorer people would have to buy
overseas(cheaper), but the majority would be able to spend more to
improve our economy. this is not some protectionism movement. balance
of course.
my main point being- everything we practically own(recently, say
from the 70's) comes from overseas because it is cheap. well, all good
things have cost (cheaper outsoursed goods = weaker economy) and all
bad things have benifits (higher priced American goods = stronger
economy). so woulden't you pay the cost for a better overall "health"?
woulden't a selfish/greedy or poor person say no? poor are the only
excused. just looking around i'd say 80% of the stuff in my room are
all made over seas. that is a problem. a Made in America store would
bring balance and strength to our economy.
I'd recommend buying an economics textbook. Printed in the USA, if you
prefer. You should be able to find "comparative advantage" in chapter
1.
