Dear Sharan,

As you know, I am looking for an RA to work with me over the summer for the Khap Panchayat project. Below is a short description of me and the project. Would you forward it to people you know?

I am a graduate student at Columbia University. I am currently working on a project that tries to measure the impact of Khap Panchayats on various outcomes.

However, no formal dataset about their presence or functioning exists. Thus, I am planning to collect this information in Haryana, starting this summer. I am planning to work with a data collection firm, but I need an RA who can closely supervise the data collection process. This is especially important because I may have to leave for New York in the middle of the survey. 

Familiarity with Haryanvi would be fantastic, but not necessary. However, the RA should be comfortable working in Haryana. Ideally, the RA must have some experience running a survey. The initial period would be June 18-July 31, and would cover one district in Haryana close to Delhi (probably Jhajjar). Conditional on receiving funding, a longer survey would take place starting in October. 

I will be in Delhi June 2 onwards, so I could meet the RA in person to discuss details. If you would like more details over email, please let me know. 

Payment can be negotiated, but I can guarantee a minimum of Rs.40,000 a month (55,000 for the period mentioned).
