My friend Shuronda mentioned the good food at Holiday Fish, which is an Oakland restaurant that has been serving  "Classic Southern Comfort Food" since 1972.

I called them and left a message for the owner about the vacant Southern Cafe site, and I gave Shuronda a DIA business card which she will give to the owner.

I have been working on http://www.2starmarket.com and I have a "community page" on that site, so I noticed that Holiday Fish also has a  community page. This is a the real deal -- a local business that has great products, service, and is connected to the community.

I know that now is probably not the time to ask a business to open a second location, but I think we should talk with them.

I do remember a survey like that being done a while back- I think it showed a strong interest in an Italian restaurant and something else, I forget. I did try the Italian restaurant in Laurel last week - it was quite good and large portions. Maybe someone has a copy of that survey?

A market survey of some sort would really solve most of our issues
surrounding what concept would do the greatest good for the community.  I
for one would not find "classic southern comfort" to be the greatest good
for the community.  Currently, our Dimond retail district does not satisfy
the community at large and is very heavy in nail salons, barber/hair salons,
four banks and fast food.  Southern comfort food is really a small niche.
We need something of an icon restaurant that is the place the Dimond can
call its own and is well patronized by all.

Of course this is my opinion and one of many.

Good work Tim,
I checked out the Yelp reviews and see that my friend Max Airborne
gave it her highest rating "Fat-friendly rating: 5 stars. Totally comfy
and accessible."
