Pat and I lived in an apartment in the Palermo district for over 3 months
and have a good friend and scholar on all things "southern cone" who bought
an apartment in Palermo during the bleak recession. I shared this article
with him (he is currently in Chile) and here is his reply:
"This is interesting, and I've mentioned Argentina in the current context,
but the difference is that Argentina bottomed out when everyone else was
doing pretty well - so they had the benefit of solid export markets. At the
moment, though, everyone's bottoming out."
