PLEASE SEE BELOW -- PLEASE CONSIDER ATTENDING ONE OR THE OTHER OR BOTH . . . ESPECIALLY THE TUESDAY EVENT.

THIS WEEK, there are two important events happening that will have a major effect on shaping our community's future!

UPMC Workers Organizing - City Council Hearing

Tuesday, June 26th, 1pm

City Council Chambers, City-County Building, 414 Grant Street, 15219

Clean Rivers Campaign Kickoff

Thursday, June 28th, 7pm

Intl Union of Operating Engineers – Local 95

300 Saline Street, 15207

On Tuesday, June 26th at 1pm, UPMC workers are coming together for a voice for themselves, their patients, and their community.   The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center is the biggest economic driver in our region.  It’s also a tax exempt “charitable” institution whose mission is to improve the lives and health of the people in our region.  But despite profits of over $700 million and huge subsidies from the region’s taxpayers, thousands of UPMC workers don’t earn family-sustaining wages.  And UPMC’s not-for-profit status means that the largest employer in the state doesn’t contribute its fair share to our transit system or other essential public services.  Join courageous UPMC workers on Tuesday at 1pm for a City Council Hearing to start the conversation about harnessing UPMC’s power for everyone in our community! City Council Chambers, City-County Building, 414 Grant Street, 15219.

Then, on Thursday, June 28th at 7pm, join the Clean Rivers Campaign for our Kickoff!  When it rains, sewage and other contaminants flow into our rivers.  The Clean Rivers Campaign is working to solve this problem using green solutions that will create jobs, rebuild our neighborhoods, and result in the most benefit at the least cost to our community.  The ALCOSAN “sewer fix” will be the largest-ever public works investment in Allegheny County, and it’s up to us – the ratepayers – to make sure our money is spent in a way that brings the most benefit to our community!  Make the green choice!  Come to the Clean Rivers Campaign Launch! Thursday, June 28th at 7pm, 300 Saline Street, 15207.

If you have any questions or wish to RSVP for either event, call Pittsburgh UNITED at 412-231-8648!

In solidarity,

Barney Oursler

Executive Director
