2/12/12 PPT meeting notes

In attendance: 17; Facilitator: Alicia; Notes: Lady

 1. Working Groups

a. Re-visiting the role of a PPT working group (What is a WG? What kind of volunteers are needed?)

---concern raised about WG invites being sent to non-PPT members ("member" means people who attend general meetings and generally participate in the group).

---at the Outreach/Action WG meeting, there was frustration displayed by some people that the WG could not make decisions for PPT. while the propaganda WG does have a mandate from PPT to produce certain things as they see fit (such as the website and facebook content), WG's need to make proposals to the PPT membership so decisions can be made (i.e. actions).

---PROPOSAL: each WG in PPT manages their volunteer list to reflect PPT member volunteers only, and the members at large be conscious of what emails they are forwarding to non-PPT members. (1 abstention, PROPOSAL PASSES)

--- concern raised about Occupy meetings regarding transit issues and the need to coordinate efforts and work together. there is an issue that people have and they do not want it swept under the rug. dissenting opinion by Occupy member that there is no issue.

b. Reportback from the Community Outreach/Actions WG

Demonstration on 2/29 at PAT public hearing

---wiki page is set up, we have a 1:00-1:15 time slot, there is built in publicity.

---thoughts about "mic check": we didn't want to disrupt community memebrs time so we are going to do a mic check during our time slots. planning to notify PAT ahead of time so they aren't taken off guard.

---discussion about content for mic check: make it a state issue, governor cutting transit b/c he's in bed with the 1%, marcellus shale needs taxed (opposition raised regarding mentioning this).

---PROPOSAL:call for action at noon on 2/29 followed by a mic check. the general message of the whole action be about the governor cutting transit b/c he doesn't want to tax the corporations, and specifics can be worked out at the Outreach/Action WG. the press release is done by the Propaganda WG. (1 abstention, PROPOSAL PASSES)

Leafletting 2/14, 2/24 & 2/28

---have sign up sheets available to add interested people to the PPT anouncement list.

---2/14; ATU and Paul will print 3,000 pink flyers. 2 groups will be responsible for meeting from 3:30-5:30, one in Oakland and one downtown.

---2/24 and 2/28; Alicia & Marina will reformat the "postcard" to address font size, etc.

VOTE TAKEN on above leafletting plans of action. (1 objection, PASSES)

---Mike gave us a total donation of $1,083 ($10 was used to purchase a cashier's check) from individual ATU members!!!

he asks for an itemized list of how the $ was spent. the Coordinating Committee can take care of this.
