News from Quinta do Vale da Lama
Open House Market
The whole Vale da Lama Team wants to thank all the enthusiastic participants of our Open House Market and the many visitors who spent this beautiful Sunday with us. Hand in hand with Bernadete Bishop, Sandy Croft and Lena Strang, who continue to spread their concept of the Open House Arts and Crafts Market, this great event came into life.
Neighbors, farmers from the area, new friends, artists, seed savers and local organizations filled the day with such diversity, creativity and friendly atmosphere that the event was a huge success. Francisco Eugénio taught children with big smiles and hands covered in clay how to use a pottery wheel, Sandie Croft scented the air with her lovely homemade soaps, the organic wine from Monte Casteleja accompanied the big lunch freshly harvested and cooked here at Quinta do Vale da Lama. Projecto Tasa, Orelhas Sem Fronteiras and the Escola Livre do Algarve shared their experience and products with the interested guests, while Prove, Quinta Seis Marias, as well as Mercearia Bio proved the vast variety of organic food that is available here in Algarve. Margarida and Ricardo managed to sell second hand relics.
While many were diving into the diverse seed bank that Christiane and Robert (Quinta dos Colmeeiros) have been establishing for many years, others were fascinated by the many artists' crafts, photos and paintings. Such as Maria Helena Campo's Bamboo Crafts, Christina Candeias palm weavings, Idalina Cestas' traditionally woven chairs, Corina Ferreira's elaborate gowns, Sandra Coutinho's woolen work, Mônica Azevedo's wood crafts, the stone engravings by Bernard Symbolium, Nina's jewelry collection, the lovely crochet work for children by Philina, Georgio and Janet Mealha's pottery, Eugenio Spriet's sculptures, Tina Gonçalves' encaustic work, Joana Rodrigues' Urban Crafts, Bernadete Bishop's Paintings and the dog inspired photographs and paintings by Christa Wells.
In the midst of the artists' exhibition belly dancers captured their audience with their spontaneous appearance. While children with painted faces were gathering on straw bales around Fernanda Machado curiously listening to her story-telling. Shortly afterwards their parents and many more joined us just as curiously on guided tours around the our organic farm.
The outcome of this big cultural mix and gathering was a day filled with new encounters, happy moments and stomachs :) We are looking forward to the next Open Day to embrace our local network and invite our friends and everyone who is interested in organic farming, arts, culture or simply social networking.

Mercado Casa Aberta
A equipa do Vale da Lama quer agradecer os entusiastas participantes do Mercado Casa Aberta "Artes e Cultura" e a todos os visitantes que passaram este maravilhoso domingo connosco. Este evento ganhou vida graças à dedicação de Bernadete Bishop, Sandy Croft e Lena Strang que continuarão a criar e abrir portas a diferentes casas.
A participação dos nossos vizinhos, agricultores locais, novos amigos, artesãos, guardiões de sementes e associações locais fizeram deste evento um sucesso, cheio de diversidade, criatividade, com uma grande atmostera de amizade. Francisco Eugénio ajudou as crianças a meterem a mão na massa e dar forma ao barro com a sua roda de oleiro, Sandie Croft perfumou o dia com os seus sabonetes, o vinho biológico de Monte Casteleja acompanhou o almoço fresquinho apresentado pela equipa da Quinta. Projecto Tasa, Orelhas Sem Fronteiras e a Escola Livre do Algarve partilharam a sua experiência e produtos aos dedicados visitantes, enquanto Prove, Quinta Seis Marias, assim como Mercearia Bio trouxeram a variedade de produtos biológicos que temos no Algarve. Margarida e Ricardo trouxeram a sua banca de produtos vintage, enquanto que Christiane e Robert (Quinta dos Colmeeiros) partilhavam a sua paixão por frutos exóticos e sementes.
Artesanato, fotografias e pinturas tiveram também o seu espaço no mercado com as peças de bamboo de Maria Helena Campo, a empreita de Christina Candeias, as cadeiras típicas algarvias de Idalina Cestas, costumes tradicionais de Corina Ferreira. Sandra Coutinho trouxe-nos a sua bijuteria de lâ feltrada, Mônica Azevedo trabalhos em madeira, Bernard Symbolium com gravuras na pedra, a colecção de joalharia da Nina, o croché de Philina, a cerâmica de Georgio e Janet Mealha, as esculturas de Eugenio Spriet's, o trabalho de Tina Gonçalves,o artesanato urbano de Joana Rodrigues, pinturas de Bernadete Bishop e as pinturas inspiradas nas vivências do cão de Christa Wells.
Entre expositores, dançarinas do ventre foram aplaudidas por uma grande audiência enquanto que os pequenos se sentavam nos fardos de palha ouvindo as historias que Fernanda Machado tinha para lhes contar.
Seguiu-se uma visita guiada à Quinta onde ficaram todos a conhecer aquilo que por cá acontece.
Conseguimos assim rechear este dia com a alegria, partilha e apetite de todos os envolvidos. Não podemos esperar pelo próximo Dia Aberto para que possamos continuar a conhecer a nossa rede local :)
